With a strong understanding of Video Systems Design theory and practice, the Video Systems Designer Sr. with Disney Live Entertainment provides strong technical design expertise in the areas of projection mapping, media playback, media server programming, signal routing, and display technology along with proven Project Management skills.

This is a full-time role and will report to the Manager-Video Systems Design.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in the project’s creative development

  • Define scope by identifying system needs and functions based on creative goals

  • Develop/implement video designs for live shows and facility infrastructure as assigned

  • Provide an integrated structure throughout the entire process of development through the implementation of live show entertainment products and the development of equipment and labor budgets

  • Create the design package as a living document assembled along with the show development and production from the initial concept and pitch phase

  • Guiding the design progress through buy-off, procurement, installation, and test & adjust, programming, rehearsals, and opening, concluding with As-Built documentation for operating partners at the venue

  • Partnering closely with Technical Direction and other design teams

  • Working closely with the CAD department to ensure 3D modeling requirements are met/delivered to Media Development

  • Function as the primary interface between Creative and Technical with regard to media playback/quality of media delivered by Media Development

  • Design appropriate systems for shows and/or facility infrastructure that address Park operational needs

  • Craft design drawings: Plans, Lines, Layouts, 3D pre-visualization, Occlusion Assessment, BTU/Power/Weight load estimates, etc.

  • Working with Procurement, Technical Direction, and Production to follow Company buying standards and schedule of receiving equipment/products/etc.

  • Assisting Technical Direction staff with Video Integrator Management, Factory Acceptance Testing, and Sight Acceptance Testing

  • Lead all aspects of the installation, test & adjust, and programming of required elements

  • Provides support through programming, training, rehearsals, and opening of the show

  • Research video and projection technologies in support of design effort

  • Conduct ongoing entertainment show quality evaluations (ASQA Reports) of existing entertainment offerings to assist with maintaining the original entertainment show intent and outstanding quality

  • Partner with Consultant Video Designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training, and proper documentation of all video services delivered

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in video systems design in live show/theatrical production, live event production, technical, and/or stage management production

  • Strong understanding of current technology and industry standards for all aspects of Video Design (theatrical, industrial, concert, cinematic, etc.) as applied to live show and facility infrastructure systems

  • Advanced experience with most video delivery systems, such as front and rear projection, LED monitors and screens, and high-powered laser projectors

  • Advanced comprehension of the various formats for video content management and compatible delivery systems in both file delivery and live delivery environments, and understanding of SMPTE standards

  • Advanced understanding of video signal distribution and routing systems, including network setup, signal flow, file management, and Video programming methods

  • Outstanding ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities while maintaining an open and positive perspective that reflects confident professionalism and unconditional dedication to providing consistently superior products and services

  • Ability to work closely with Technical Director(s) and Video crew to prioritize, coordinate, instruct, and problem-solve during installation, content integration, and programming

  • Proven ability to read architectural blueprints and interpret electrical drawings

  • Ability to support the creative process by collaborating with other Designers, Directors, Writers, and Producers

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize needs, and support across multiple active projects

  • Proficiency with CAD drafting programs both 2D and 3D

  • Ability to deliver on a Project’s established scope, schedule, and budget

  • Great understanding of 3D and UV workflow

  • Proven dedication to staying current with video display delivery systems technology, and research & development efforts within the industry as well as with content formatting requirements and basic content creation parameters

  • Willingness to work flexible hours - nights, weekends, holidays

  • Must have, or be willing to acquire a passport and corporate credit card for travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of TWDC Standards and/or Industry Standards

  • Willingness to travel on domestic and international assignments as needed including Disney Cruise Line

  • Proficiency in any additional languages is a plus (Mandarin, French, Japanese, Spanish, etc.)

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in the technical aspects of Video Systems Design, or Theater Arts and its associated skills, with a focus on live show entertainment and/or projection mapping.
