Summary You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP ASSISTANT in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT without further competition Responsibilities You will establish improvements for all non-nuclear shop processes by studying current methods and making recommendations. You will participate in the development of Shop goals, priorities and objectives. You will assist the Superintendent in carrying out his/her personnel management responsibilities. You will forecast manpower, materials, equipment, tooling and facility needs. You will manage tooling, material, and facility requirements to ensure proper job order costing. You will ensure a properly trained, skilled and qualified workforce is assigned to work projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with processes, principles, theories, skills and practices of the assigned trades in the mechanical shop. Experience in long range planning and managing shop resources. Experience with quality assurance principles and methods related to nuclear submarine overhaul and repair. Experience in management principles and theories to manage or supervise administrative work. GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience utilizing the knowledge of budget procedures including cost classes and tracking methods. Experience with quality assurance principles and methods to develop plans, policies and procedures as they relate to nuclear submarine overhaul and repair. Experience investigating shop practices, identifying deficiencies and taking appropriate action.
