Bureau of Reclamation Electrician in Klamath Falls, Oregon

Summary Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Electrician. Duty Location: Klamath Falls, Oregon Responsibilities The position is located in the Facilities and Operations Maintenance Branch, Klamath Basin Area Office. This position performs a wide range of skilled electrician duties which consists of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment commonly found in industrial facilities i.e. Water storage and diversion dams, pumping plants and electrical features associated with these facilities, buildings and auxiliary equipment. In addition, the work requires general mechanical skills and knowledge, and in some cases may require knowledge of electronic principles as they pertain to electronic control circuitry. This job requires knowledge and application of electrical principles, materials, and safety standards. -Performs installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment, transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements, as well as the electrical portions of generators. -Examples of the above are - secondary power distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements, to distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits; industrial multiphase systems; thermocouple sensors; electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm system; emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems; high intensity lighting systems with associated controls; target mechanisms; AC and DC rectification systems; galvanic and impressed current cathodic projection systems, which prevent corrosion on underground or submerged equipment and pipes; amplifier circuits; and related electrical equipment. -Services lines, transformers, insulators, capacitor equipment, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, ground connects, and similar equipment. -Assignments may include working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls. -Conducts planning and lay out work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and completing repairs and installations with little or no advice. -Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines serving an activity or group of activities such as a pumping plants, dams, and Reclamation facilities. -Work may be performed on systems up to 600 VAC, that are disconnected. Work may be performed on de-energized systems up to 2400 VAC. -Performs infrared (IR) thermography to scan and record images of low voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, batteries, etc. -May work independently or as part of a work crew. -Operates pumping plants for drainage purposes, involving determining pumping requirements by close observation of water levels and operating conditions. -Removes pumping units and disassembles for inspection or repair by others. -During periods of non-operation, performs maintenance work on canals, drains, and water facility structures, including dams, and pumping plants. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation. You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position. You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency. Required to frequently lift, carry, and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance. You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing. May be required to perform temporary duty travel (TDY) approximately 10% of the time. Must maintain Journeyman Electrician License Requirements in the state of California and Oregon. May be required to work nights and weekends as needed and supplement the maintenance crew on a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
