TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physically able to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and maintain varied body motions and positions for long periods of time
Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
Requires the use of office equipment, phones, fax, email
Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or instruments
Requires ability to hear, see and speak
Able to move up to 100 pounds
Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols in the English language
Requires working under variable conditions and/or working irregular hours

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in the pre- and post-operative bay(s) of the center with some involvement with business office and other clinical areas
Continuous multi-tasking skills required
Significant contact with staff/co-workers, patients and their families, other employers, physicians and their office staff, and other members of the health care community
Minimal travel may be required
Routinely deal with proprietary and confidential information
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the efficient supervision and function of the preoperative and post-operative departments, including high levels of productivity and cost-effective supply utilization
Supervises the operation of the pre- and post-operative departments, uses available resources to adequately maintain the physical property and assets of the departments / center
Assures the daily operations of the pre- and post-operative departments always comply with local, state, federal regulatory requirements and the accrediting organization’s guidelines
Provide nursing expertise; recommend scheduling assignments of staff, and supplement staff, as needed, to assure safe care, based on patient acuity and age specific criteria
Establish and maintain excellent physician relationships, interact with physician’s offices and their leaders / staff to bring forward best outcomes for patients
Assists in developing policies, procedures, and staffing essential to the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of the Center. Reviews and revises these in collaboration with the Clinical Director, Administrator, the nursing staff and the professional staff, keeping up to date on current trends in nursing practice and patient care
Participate in interviews for staff selection
Assist in evaluating staff member performance
Demonstrate leadership skills and values of the center
Identifies and requests appropriate personnel, equipment, and supplies to the Clinical Director
Evaluates programs and patient care activities
Recommends an organizational structure, assigning responsibilities and delegating authority that shall facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care for the patient to the Clinical Director
Recommends standards of nursing care within the pre- and post-operative areas in compliance with professional nursing standards to the Clinical Director and implements initiatives as deemed necessary by the Clinical Director
Assists Clinical Director in preparing weekly and monthly nursing schedules as needed
Initiates and / or supports activities to control costs
Reduces chance of surgical site infections by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices
Establishes, maintains, and evaluates quality control studies within the pre- and post-operative areas in collaboration with the Clinical Director and the Administrator to improve the services these departments provide to others
Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance, and participates in emergency preparedness drills
OSHA Exposure Classification:
- Job Category I.Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply.Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing, preferred
Current registered nurse licensure in State of employment
2 years of leadership experience in an intra-operative setting within ambulatory surgery center setting preferred
Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership and teaching capabilities
BLS / ACLS certification required; PALS certification, as applicable
Ability to communicate directly and professionally
Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards
Maintains regular attendance
