Make a Difference

Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, primarily responsible for coordinating the daily operations of Howard EMS 911 and transfer service. Provides guidance to the EMS staff and ensures adherence to established policies and protocols. Performs Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic duties as needed. Works with EMS affiliates in the Howard region. This person will strive to improve on the quality of services in the Howard region by building stronger relations and communications with our affiliates. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to be flexible with work hours. Attends patients of all ages and genders.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

Applicants for this position should be able to collaborate with others in a team setting, have excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude toward problem-solving.

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)

• 2 year / Associate Degree : High School Diploma + Paramedic Course (Preferred)

• Required Certifications/Licensures: (Certified Paramedic, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS))

• 5+ years: working as a certified paramedic. (Required)

• Consults with the Director and assists in the development of emergency care standards.

• Assists in the preparation of the departmental budget.

• Assists the Director and Medical Director in planning for staff meetings and EMS audit and review.

• Responsible for the orientation and training of subordinate personnel.

• Assists the EMS education coordinator in identifying educational needs/ambulance personnel and assists in coordinating their inservice needs.

• Ensures that the work area, equipment, and ambulances are maintained and operated properly.

• Supervises subordinate personnel ensuring compliance with all respects of hospital policies and procedures.

• Responsible for daily auditing and billing requirements on all ambulance patient care records.

• Participates in daily quality assurance and improvement activities.

• Develops and maintains appropriate rapport with state organizations. This includes all census counts and state applications necessary to maintain provider certification.

• Maintains payroll for EMS through Kronos system.

• Drives the ambulance in a safe manner in accordance with Indiana Law related to emergency vehicles. Minimal difficulties with area mapping system.

• Operates ambulance and hospital radio equipment according to hospital policies and procedures.

• Completes initial and ongoing patient assessment. Takes appropriate action when significant changes are recognized in a timely manner.

• Gathers all pertinent information related to each specific patient and relates this information to the Emergency Department via the cellular telephone/radio system.

• Documents patient assessment systematically, initial treatment, and ongoing assessment/treatment according to accepted unit standing orders, protocols and unit standards.
