Where is the work: This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed on-site 3 days each week.

Job Summary:

This Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for mechanical design, analysis, testing, qualification, and manufacturing integration of centrifugal and positive displacement compressors used in Trane Commercial HVAC applications.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

  • Mechanical design and engineering of centrifugal and positive displacement compressors as well as components and subsystems from concept selection to detailed drawings.

  • Provide knowledge and experience in design and practical application of rotating systems, bearings, castings (structural and pressure containment), stress and deflection analysis, lubrication systems, seals, rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, and electrical motors.

  • Work with development engineering, manufacturing, vendors, quality, logistics as part of a team to implement production of new products.

  • Participate in and/or facilitate a team when conducting root cause analyses to resolve reliability, quality, and application related problems occurring in the field and the factory.

  • Facilitate design reviews, conduct design FMEAs; develop & execute risk mitigation plans.

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation; including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, solid models and specifications.

  • Provide technical support to development engineering, manufacturing engineering and operations. Assure compatibility between design and process capabilities.

  • Maintain relevant Subject Matter Expertise: monitor new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects and conferences.

  • Able to travel (approximately 6 times per year) to company business units and suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline) and at least 5-years work experience in product design or development is required.

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering is a plus.

Key Competencies:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.

  • Understanding of failure modes of components and systems is a plus.

  • Long-term interest in the design and development of rotating machinery.

  • Strong mechanical design and analytical skills, with practical “hands-on” hardware experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis and failure analysis.

  • Computer skills in Pro-E and Ansys are a plus.

  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and 3D modeling is a plus.

  • A team player, comfortable with and satisfied by group accomplishments.

  • Good leadership and communications skills

Compensation:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $145,000 annually. Disclaimer: This pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
