This announcement is fill two (2) unclassifiedpositions within the Acadiana Area Human Services District – Tyler Behavioral Health Clinic located in Lafayette, LA
Occupation Summary:
Works as a Staff Psychiatrist in the clinical programs of a comprehensive behavioral health center as an Unclassified Physician employee of the Acadiana Area Human Services District (AAHSD).
Provides specialized (psychiatry) professional medical treatment to the mentally ill within all age categories, who may also have a developmental disability and/or an addictive disorder. Such treatment may be direct, consultative, or supervisory.
Evaluates person presenting for services within the designated responsibilities for AAHSD. Diagnoses and prescribes a plan of treatment, including medication as needed, for persons with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, who are within the target population defined by the Louisiana Department of Health.
Implements assignments to perform educational activities for staff and public and coordinates with individuals and groups involved in volunteer and vendor services which interact with AAHSD.
This AAHSD SITE is NHSC (National Health Service Corps) APPROVED. QUALIFYING PHYSICIANS MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana.
Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
Expertise in use of psychotropic drugs for wellness recovery.
Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking and written form so that others can clearly understand.
Demonstrated commitment to the welfare of individuals and families with mental/behavioral health issues.
Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and addictive disorders.
Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat Mental Illness, Addictive Disorders, and co-morbidity.
Complex problem solving: identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Examples of Work
Essential Functions:
Psychiatric assessment of persons presenting voluntarily or involuntarily as defined by the Mental Health Law for various purposes including to rule in or rule out the presence of a mental disorder, admission or readmission to outpatient or to inpatient services, reevaluation regarding changes in condition or in treatment or for periodic review, consultation to other health care professionals or agencies, and possibly addressing medical/legal issues.
Receive notification of, and respond to, special incidents within the sequence established for notification of key employees.
Confer with AAHSD Director and/or Clinic Managers on any issue that does not clearly fit within the authority of the Clinic Manager or Director of Behavioral Health.
Assure that all services are optimally staffed with physicians on a daily basis and changes are communicated.
Assure that laboratory reports are reviewed timely by a physician.
Review Physician work for quality assurance.
Supervision, as needed, for Health Information Director, the Director of Behavioral Health, and the Medical Staff.
