Summary This position is located at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida. Responsibilities This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by AFGE. Please note that as provided for in the AFGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles. The duties of this position require incumbent to receive, pick-up, transport, identify and issue items, equipment, tools, uniforms, and materials. The incumbent identifies specific items requested by users from descriptions of their intended usage; skilled in determining substitute and interchangeable items. Verifies shortages, overages and obsolete parts and assists supply personnel with re-ordering. Inspects deliveries for damage and quantity. Physically inventories all stock and maintains listing of equipment and advises supervisor of stock levels. Receives written and/or oral assignments from the supervisor. The attendant determines the methods, techniques, and procedures appropriate for accomplishing assignments. The supervisor will be available for matters which require immediate attention or additional input. This position also requires more difficult decisions and judgments in the determination and selection of work sequences, methods, procedures, and techniques. Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work. Your background must demonstrate the ability to receive, pick-up, transport, identify and issue items, equipment, tools, uniforms, and materials. Utilize automated inventory and equipment management programs for tools, parts, uniforms, and associated equipment. Determine methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering such factors as temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, space available, and convenience of handling items. Compile records concerned with quantity, cost, and type of material received, stored, and issued. Issue and receive tools and equipment to/from personnel. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work that this position is responsible for not only involves data input into the cemetery computer system, but also requires regular and recurring physical exertion. Ability to bend, climb ladders, stoop, stretch and similar activities. Incumbent must be able to lift eighty (80) pounds on a recurring basis. Safety equipment is available and issued to minimize the possibility of injury. Working Conditions: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposures to moderate discomforts such as excessive noise levels, high temperatures in rooms and bays, or adverse weather conditions at open storage areas when unloading and receiving items from vendors. The incumbent may, as needed, perform cemetery caretaker duties where work is performed outside and may be exposed to the discomfort and extremes of heat, cold, rain, wind, sun, snow, ice and is subject to dirt, dust, fumes, mud and water. Work may be performed in areas where pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers and other chemicals are applied or stored. Rain gear and safety equipment is available and uniforms are provided and to be worn every workday. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
