Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

PRIMARILY FOR THE LGH SLEEP DISORDERS CENTER

Supervises various aspects of pulmonary and respiratory care activities and personnel as assigned in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. This includes the following areas: Inpatient Clinical, Pulmonary Equipment, Pulmonary Diagnostics, Pulmonary Navigation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Women’s and Babies Hospital, Sleep Disorder Center, and all care provided within. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: pediatric (30 days through 12 years), adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years) and geriatric (65 years and above). (This is a multiple incumbent role.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Supervises the performance of all staff in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine through direct observation, review of documentation and personal contact. Assists the staff in optimizing performance and care delivery. Conducts employee performance evaluations and provides employee counseling. Organizes shift work load into staff assignments and adjusts these assignments as necessary.

  • Manages payroll and scheduling responsibilities for their assigned staff.

  • Acts as a technical resource for the staff as well as the champion for innovative respiratory care services.

  • Interacts with department leadership, including charge therapists, regarding operational, patient, and personnel issues.

  • Interacts, collaborates, and supports the entirety of leadership and staff of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine including Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health (LGH) executive management and internal customers to develop and implement high quality, efficient, and cost-effective respiratory care services.

  • Uses LEAN principles effectively to promote continuous quality improvement.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of RT shared governance committees.

  • Assists departmental leadership in establishing the very highest expectations and standards for staff and leadership.

  • Assists departmental leadership in complying with all regulatory and governmental standards and accreditations. ••The Clinical Supervisor of Pulmonary Diagnostics will oversee regulatory and accreditation for the department in its entirety- this includes TJC, DOH, CAP, AACVPR, ASM, etc.

  • Will be required to work in patient care up to 50% of worked hours as assigned by the Director or Manager of Respiratory Care Services.

  • Follows all applicable policies and procedures as defined by LGH.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Assists in education, training, and professional development of assigned staff.

  • Confers with nursing and physicians regarding pulmonary operations and collaboration.

  • Attends collaborative and organizational meetings designed to improve quality of care.

  • Assists in the evaluation of new products and equipment.

  • Participates in departmental, organizational, and collegial education programs when requested.

  • Acts as the Manager of Respiratory Care Services when necessary.

  • Acts as a Clinical Coordinator when necessary.

  • On-call and weekend coverage as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate AMA approved respiratory therapy program with a minimum of an A.S/A.A.S

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist - National Board for Respiratory Care

  • Registered Polysomnography Technologist required for Supervisor of Sleep Disorder Center.

  • Licensed respiratory care practitioner (PA)

  • Five (5) years of experience in respiratory care including critical care.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • BS degree in Respiratory Therapy or Health Care related field.

  • Advanced credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care or equivalent.
