DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Estimator works closely with the Sales Manager, and occasionally the customer. The position is responsible and accountable for all aspects of developing a complete Sales Bid Package for certain straight-forward structures; including plate girder and stringer bridges, some rehabilitation projects, design & build projects, or certain new ventures or product lines. 

The Sales Bid Package is comprised of:  * Detailed list of inclusions and exclusions  * Pricing to detail the project (if included), including sublet quotes if deemed appropriate  * A complete list of sourced material required  * A detailed breakdown of the labor required to complete the items included in the bid  * Pricing to deliver included items to jobsite  * Pricing to erect the items included (if appropriate)

Additionally, the position is responsible for generating costs due to a change in condition (both internal and external) generated by the project manager and advising the cost impact of proposed changes throughout the lifecycle of the project.

Experience, Training or Educational Requirements:   * Minimum of high school diploma or GED with prior estimating experience. Industrial    Engineering/Mechanical Engineer degree preferred.  * Demonstrate proficiency of mathematical concepts including geometry, trigonometry, and    accounting principles.  * Demonstrate proficiency of spatial relationships.  * Proficient in understanding shop drawings, design drawings, and contract specifications.  * Experience in metal fabrication and welding, as well as time and motion studies desirable.  * Demonstrate excellent computer skills with strong working knowledge of spreadsheet    applications and estimating software systems.  * Ability to work independently and resolve problems with sound judgment.  * Must possess strong verbal and interpersonal skills.  * 1 or 2 years of experience as an Estimator I, or demonstrated equivalent experience.

Essential Job Functions:  * All tasks and duties of the Estimator Level I position, and may require formal and/or informal    training to upgrade skills.  * Estimator is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the final Sales Estimate cost    summary, as measured against the awarded jobs P&L ledger.  * Facilitator in communicating with operations and outside agencies and vendors to resolve    complex and unusual issues in order to determine appropriate cost and schedule impacts.  * Responsible for training Level I persons to upgrade their skills, and actively participate in    reviewing and approving the final Sales Estimates of other estimators.  * Good working knowledge of the estimating software systems, and assists the Estimating    Systems Engineer in improving the programs.  * Review, evaluate, and adjust sales estimates for work scope changes created by customer design    changes or production variances, as directed by Estimating Manager. Prepare detailed cost    documentation for contract extras, as needed by Project Management.  * Apprises the Estimating Manager of any problems and progress within the estimating area    providing advice and counsel when requested. Assist the Estimating Manager in planning    short and long term estimating objectives.
