The Mob Museum Security Officer in Las Vegas (Downtown), Nevada

Position Overview:

The Security Officer is responsible for performing daily security operations, upholding the Museum’s security and safety standards in a manner in keeping with a world-class guest experience, and ensuring the safety and protection of the Museum’s guests, employees, volunteers, vendors and property. This includes enforcing policies, responding to security and safety incidents, and offering a visible security presence and deterrent. The Security Officer reports to the Security Manager while closely coordinating her/his work with the Manager-on-Duty and the Museum’s public operating departments. 

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform security and safety services, including standing post during business operations, performing regular facility and property inspections, responding to security and safety incidents including injuries, ejections, trespasses, evacuations, etc.

  • Provide the highest standards levels of guest service throughout the course of standard operating situations and during any incident response.

  • Respond to and investigate safety/security issues.

  • Ensure that access to general facility and restricted areas is limited to appropriate and authorized individuals.

  • Monitor all computer alarm points and security cameras on property, dispatching and documenting security movement and activity as appropriate.

  • Support incident investigation and complete comprehensive security reports for incidents involving thefts, misappropriations, fires, rules/regulations/violations, accidents, hazardous material spills, and all other emergency scenarios.

  • Maintain confidentiality in discussing staff, volunteer, or vendor matters.

  • Assist with vendor access to the Museum, acceptance of deliveries, media, office visitors, etc.

  • Stay abreast of ticket packages, in-house exhibitions, educational programs, and related community events in order to keep guests well-informed and respond to questions which may arise.

  • Participate in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Must obtain provisional registration through the Private Investigator’s Licensing Board (PILB) prior to beginning employment and obtain permanent registered PILB work card within 90 days of employment.

  • Must obtain TAM alcohol awareness card within 60 days of employment.

  • Experience in security, law enforcement or military. Experience in a cultural, educational, and/or entertainment attraction is preferred.

  • Experience and training in life safety evacuation, emergency procedures, fire extinguisher training, blood borne pathogens, powered industrial equipment, CPR, AED and first aid.

  • Understanding, experience and ability to safely utilize law enforcement/security tools and equipment such as fire arms, taser guns, stun guns, batons, defense sprays, restraints, and PPE.

  • Knowledge of electronic scanning and monitoring systems.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

  • Able to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.

  • Able to effectively gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience handling sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

  • Eagerness for solving problems and a commitment to accepting responsibility. 

  • Able to work evenings, weekends and overnights.

  • A valid driver’s license in good standing is required.

  • Ability to comprehend and implement written rules, regulations, order and training instructions.

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) is preferred.

  • Ability to utilize basic computer programs (Outlook, MS Office) is required.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on occasional basis and push/pull up to 200 lbs on occasional basis.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, regularly traverse between and throughout the exhibit floors, traverse outdoors, and to meet the physical and psychological demands of leading building evacuations and responding to other emergency situations such as injuries, guest ejections, etc.

  • Enthusiasm for working in a developing organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities. 

    Education: 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
