The role of the Orderly/Transporter is to perform various service-related activities in support of the unit including daily housekeeping of center facilities, supply ordering, stocking and transportation of patients and materials. The Orderly/Transporter functions in a multi-skilled environment which requires application of customer service skills, and limited patient related activities for patients aged infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population. The Orderly/Transporter applies knowledge of growth and development in patient interactions and performs other related duties as assigned.

This person transports patients from the different areas of the hospital, cleans the OR between patients, provides terminal cleaning daily, assists in moving patients from OR Bed to Stretcher/ICU Bed, etc., obtains the appropriate bed and has it ready for the patient immediately postoperatively, assists in transporting the patient for discharge when requested by the RN. This individual is accountable to the Perioperative RN, and is given direction by that RN.

High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to speak, read, write and follow oral and directions. Previous experience in inventory management is desirable but not essential. Must be able to make judgements in regards to prioritizing duties. Must successfully complete identified training program to function in the Orderly/Transporter role. Previous experience in environmental services, dietary, patient transportation , ordering and stocking inventory, equipment maintenance or other patient-related support activities is preferred. CPR certification is required.
