Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee – Electricity Markets and Optimization in Lemont, Illinois

The candidate will join the Electricity Markets team in the Power Systems and Markets Research group. The candidate will develop power systems and electricity market models, as well as analytical tools that support energy, economic, and financial analyses of power grid planning and operations, and the interaction with other infrastructures. This includes model development for generation and transmission expansion planning, multi-stage production cost simulations, and probabilistic reliability assessment models. Some of these tools will require the development of underlying mathematical optimization or solution methodologies and analytics frameworks. Target applications specifically include analysis of emerging ISO/RTO wholesale market designs and their role in supporting the U.S. clean energy transition. The incumbent will conduct research related to a wide range of topic areas including the analysis of energy and power systems, optimizing the integration of renewable energy and other emerging technologies, and interdependencies between power grid, transportation, water systems, and climate considerations. This position may require domestic and international travel.

  • Implements power grid planning/operations algorithms and tools and conducts data analysis related to energy and power systems, with emphasis on the following areas: (1) electricity market analysis. (2) renewable energy integration; (3) energy storage

  • Supports multidisciplinary teams in the application of these methods and tools to complex issues in the domains of climate, environmental, water, and energy system analysis.

  • Prepares reports, papers, and presentations for conferences, workshops, and technical journals.

  • Supports program development including the preparation of proposals and participating in sponsor interactions.
