Summary
The Nursing Manager - Behavioral is the clinical and administrative leader for a nursing patient care unit and has 24-hour/7-day accountability for operational excellence. The Nursing Manager - Behavioral is accountable for financial and quality outcomes and will operate in a clinical role as needed for patient care.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Participates in nursing and organizational policy formation and decision-making.
Maintains records, reports, and collects statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.
Assumes accountability for all services/care provided in the department.
Consistently delivers on commitments.
Takes a strategic approach to identifying problems and opportunities and setting priorities.
Aligns people with the organization’s strategic and operational objectives.
Oversees the supervision, scheduling, orientation, counseling, and evaluation of staff.
Adopts new approaches when circumstances demand it.
Clarifies service requirements and expectations.
Identifies emerging needs and proactively acts to address them.
Determines staffing needs, work methods, and performance standards to ensure adequate and appropriate coverage to meet operational needs.
Cultivates a positive work environment, monitors the performance of all team members, and conducts annual Performance Reviews and Career Interviews on time.
Performs in a clinical role for patient care as needed.
Fosters and develops excellence in nursing practice acting as a role model for team members and patient advocate.
Takes measures to ensure that quality indicators are within the benchmark.
Responsible for creating a culture of safety and accountable for ensuring that patient safety measures are adhered to according to policy, procedure, and standards of care.
Participates and/or chairs inter/intradepartmental committees and task forces to assist in the achievement of department and/or system goals and objectives.
Other duties as consistent with this role.
Job Requirements
Job Knowledge and Skills
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training is preferred at hire or obtained before completion of orientation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school required.
Current Maine RN license required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Minimum of 5 years of Behavioral Health Clinical experience required.
Minimum 2 years of leadership experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
