Overview

The Transmission Investment Planning group is responsible for the development of strategies and activities related to asset investments for the LG&E/KU transmission system. It is primarily accountable for recommending capital projects for the annual Business Plan, monitoring system performance, establishing relevant metrics, identifying underperforming assets, and recommending improvements to enhance customer and network reliability of the transmission system. This position is responsible for coordinating and administering activities related to transmission investment planning and strategies. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, data-centric, organized, balance multiple, simultaneous tasks, and make recommendations backed by data analytics and good engineering judgment.

This position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.

The work location can be in Louisville or Lexington, KY.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with data queries needed to develop strategies for proactive replacement and inspection planning.

  • Improve data quality and provide regular reports/deliverables.

  • Support new and quickly evolving initiatives from a data perspective.

  • Creates Needs Statements based on inspection data to initiate the start of new projects.

  • Provides cost estimates and analysis for proactive replacement projects.

  • Prioritizes and maintains the list of proactive replacement projects and closely monitors asset counts tied to projects.

  • Handles project scope fluctuations and reporting (quantities, cost estimates, descriptions, naming, etc).

  • Involved in project prioritization, asset health indices and risk scoring.

  • Assists with verifying and maintaining a comprehensive asset registry.

  • Assists with integrating data into the data warehouse.

  • Involved in the annual Business Planning process.

  • Assists with completing industry-related surveys.

  • Must closely coordinate and provide open collaboration with other groups within the Transmission and Central Engineering/Construction groups to ensure alignment of project objectives.

  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education

ABET Accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Computer, or Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • Engineering experience with Electric Transmission and/or Distribution preferred.

  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI, and proficiency in querying of databases and building of reports.

  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills. Effective planning, organizing, and both written and oral communication skills.

  • Analytical skills and technical problem-solving skills.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Database development and data management skills.

  • Working knowledge of industry distribution/transmission/generation systems.
