The University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university's research enterprise, and we are looking for a faculty librarian to serve as a Music and Performing Arts Librarian. Reporting to the Director of the Fine Arts & Design Library, the Music and Performing Arts Librarian will support faculty and staff, students, and visiting researchers and collaborate with colleagues across the UK Libraries to curate library collections and support research in music and the performing arts. This position will also serve as liaison librarian to the School of Music and the department of Theatre and Dance.

Responsibilities

Serve as liaison librarian to and actively develop professional relationships with faculty, staff, and students in the UK College of Fine Arts School of Music and department of Theatre & Dance, working with researchers to identify collaborations, partnerships, and research opportunities.

Provide in-depth, specialized research consultations for students, faculty, and visiting scholars researching within music and performing arts disciplines.

Actively engage students and faculty in course-based library instruction through direct interaction, in-class instruction (both in-person and online), instructional materials development, and collection enhancement, working closely with classroom faculty to promote information literacy.

Contribute to Libraries-wide programs to educate and inform faculty and students about scholarly communication and intellectual property issues, and advocate for sustainable models of open access.

Collaborate on Libraries-wide outreach programs promoting library services and resources.

Participate in the research and scholarship of academic librarianship and music and performing arts librarianship through professional presentations, publications, exhibitions and performances, and other means.

Contribute to national and international conversations about music and performing arts librarianship through active service and participation in scholarly and professional organizations.

Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends in the field of music and performing arts librarianship.

Participate in faculty governance and other shared leadership opportunities.


Required Qualifications

A master's degree in library and information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program, or an equivalent relevant degree

A demonstrated understanding of the needs of students, faculty, and researchers in music and/or the performing arts

Ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track librarian position through research, publication, and/or professional engagement


Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an academic library or a music and/or performing arts library

An undergraduate or advanced degree in music, or a combination of relevant degrees anddemonstrated professional experience in music or the performing arts


As a member of the UKL faculty, this position participates in planning, shared governance, and UK Libraries-wide faculty activities. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure eligible position in the Librarian Title Series (open rank) which requires scholarship, professional development, and service that contributes to the effectiveness of UK Libraries, the university, and the profession as outlined in Administrative Regulation 2:7 (https://www.uky.edu/regs/ar2-7). Your Distribution of Effort (DOE) range: Primary assignment: 70-80%, Service/Prof. development and scholarship 20-30% and is reviewed at minimum annually each year. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The minimum salary for a Librarian IV is $57,000 and for a Librarian III is $62,500.
