JOB SUMMARYThe Principal Engineer is an expert in a particular field of engineering or within a particular sector. This role is experienced with leading design teams through product development and into production. A Principal Engineer will be expected to demonstrate a level of expertise in a particular area that matches or exceeds the expertise of our customers. In addition, this role consults on system architectures, assesses technical requirements and competencies needed during quoting, and oversees design progressions during product developments.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General duties will include overall ownership fort all Regulatory, Safety, Certification & Compliance matters concerning Autonomous Data Collection and Material Handling Solutions (e.g. AMRs, AGVs, etc.) in Retail, Warehouse and other similar customer environments.

  • Scope of responsibilities (SoRs) include: (1) Retail AMR and AGVs, all the components therein, and their operation in public spaces, (2) Fixed cameras, all the components therein, and their operation in public spaces, (3) The collection & subsequent handling of data obtained in public spaces

  • Mastery of pertinent, applicable and geo-specific regulations, certification standards, compliance standards, safety standards as relates to the SoRs.

  • Ability to interpret regulations and standards and their application to products mentioned in SoRs and advise as to their relevancy or governance to general and specific product use cases.

  • Must have significant experience in product development with specific experience in getting products through 3rd-party certification and self-certification processes.

  • Coordinate assessments from external certification authorities

  • Must be comfortable giving clear, direct and unambiguous guidance, interpretation and direction to development engineers with regard to applicable standards relative to SoRs outlined above.

  • Able to review designs in context to SoRs outlined above and give feedback and recommendations as needed.

  • Firm grasp of the roles both hardware & software architectures play in safety and certifications.

  • Participate, where possible, in the review and authorship of new and revisions of standards that are applicable to our business.

  • Publish internal whitepapers or documentation relative to the SoRs.

  • Participate in and approve of Engineering Change Reviews

  • Obtain a mastery of the safety systems in our products and serve as subject-matter-expert inside Jabil

  • Conduct risk assessments, DFMEAs, and audit product verification as relates to safety, certifications, and compliance matters.

  • Review and approval of mechanical and electrical hardware designs & drawings

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in an Engineering field

  • At least two years of applicable, direct experience in product safety, certifications and compliance

  • Equivalent combination of education, training or experience will be considered

  • Expertise preferred in relevant safety and compliance standards below:

  • ANSI R15.08

  • CE, ADA, GDPR, NTEP, RoHS, WEEE, REACH

  • ISO13482: Robots and robotic devices - Safety requirements for personal care robots; ISO13849-1: Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part 1: General principles for design; ISO13849-2: Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part 2: Validation; ISO10218-1: Robots and robotic devices - Safety requirements for industrial robots - Part 1:Robots; ISO10218-2: Robots and robotic devices -Safety requirements for industrial robots - Part 2: Robot systems and integration; ISO12100-2010: Safety of machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction

  • IEC 62061-2021: Safety of machinery - Functional safety of safety-related control systems; IEC 61508-2010: Electronic Functional Safety Package

  • UL 3300: Standard for Proposed First Edition of the Standard for Service, Communication, Information, Education and Entertainment Robots – SCIEE Robots
