*Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. This position will operate 5 days a week Monday-Friday at our Lab in Lexington, KY

How You’ll Make an Impact

The Staff Scientist will support development of Valvoline motorsports products, both bespoke and purchased finished goods, including engine oils, transmission fluids, or other related products. Conduct necessary testing to assess quality and performance of new formulations as requested by formulators. Blend bespoke products as directed and test requested physical properties, saving the data to the laboratory information management system. Compile and analyze data as directed by formulators with an eye toward identifying trends within the data. Act as technical point of contact for other entities engaged in blending Valvoline racing products, providing expertise and day-to-day support of new recipes, and ensuring our quality expectations.

In the role, you would be responsible for:

  • Blend new additives, base oils and other raw materials for as directed while monitoring performance and quality.

  • Conducts performance and quality testing as directed to assess new products performance versus expectations

  • Create and submit necessary documentation for shipping prototype products globally

  • Generate product data via lab, bench, engine or field testing into the laboratory information management system and complete analysis as directed

  • Establish and grow a strong external network of collaborators in the racing industry, academia, government laboratories, and suppliers.

  • Provide technical support for field or on-track testing as required

  • Provide technical support to race teams, suppliers, sanctioning bodies, etc. as required

  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time at its sole discretion.

What You’ll Need

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

  • 5 years minimum of direct experience in an analytical chemistry

  • Background in fundamental organic chemistry

  • Strong background in analytical chemistry including equipment, data generation, and presentation

  • Computer Skills - specifically Excel, Power Point, SAP and QC software

  • Collaborative skills to advance projects both internally and externally

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Travel is required to perform some responsibilities of the position

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Background in lubricants is preferred

  • Experience in tribology and lubricant product development

  • Interest or background in motorsports

  • Statistical skills

  • Familiarity with engine and/or transmission hardware and design
