JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager, Advanced Analytics to lead and grow our team focused on delivering impactful insights from complex healthcare data. This role requires a strong understanding of data architecture, cloud-based data solutions (ideally GCP or Azure), and a proven track record of success in designing and implementing advanced analytics solutions to drive improvements in clinical quality and HEDIS performance. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with the entire software development life cycle (SDLC), including hands-on coding experience in relevant languages (e.g., Python, SQL), and a demonstrated ability to design and implement efficient data pipelines. Responsibilities include designing and implementing data solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving the digitalization of quality measures. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills are essential. The successful candidate will also be a strong mentor and developer of a high-performing team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity.Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.

  • Create and communicate the product/capability vision, strategy and roadmap across multiple products or capabilities. Own the product/capability backlog and uses multi-stakeholder input to refresh and re-prioritize the backlog to drive business value. Clearly articulates backlog items and acceptance criteria to the team, and represent the capability in all governance meetings. Proactively identify new initiatives/themes and builds out backlog items under these new initiatives or themes based upon value. Empower team to manage their work by setting clear priorities and success metrics against the backlog.

  • Work directly with the business to understand their questions, business processes, programs and/ or initiatives, then oversee the identification and delivery of analytical solutions which support them to deliver value in production.This requires technical flexibility, strong knowledge of and delivery record in advanced analytical approaches.

  • Consult with the business to contextualize and translate the results of our analysis in a form which the business can understand and act upon. This will be include written reports, presentation and data visualizations, and draws clear lines between the high-level problem specifications, the analyses performed, and how the results link directly back to business objectives.Network in the wider organization to find new stakeholders and broaden the impact of the advanced analytic products / capabilities.

  • Research self-directed new analytical skills and approaches, building relationships internally and externally to transfer knowledge and maintain their position as subject matter experts, consult with fellow data scientists and analysts to guide analysis and deliver larger projects.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) OR Bachelor's Degree + 3 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a Master's Degree

  • 7 years of Data Analytics, Academic Research, and/or Work Experience

  • 2 years of Data Analytics, Academic Research, and/or Work Experience (if PhD Education)

I. Technical Skills:

  • Data Modeling& Architecture: Proficient in designing and implementing data warehouses, data lakes, and other data architectures. Experience with dimensional modeling, snowflake schema, etc.

  • Cloud Computing: Expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP), including services like data storage (S3, Blob Storage, Cloud Storage), data processing (Spark, Dataproc, Databricks), and data warehousing (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery).

  • Big Data Technologies: Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Hive, or similar big data processing frameworks. Understanding of distributed systems and parallel processing.

  • Data Pipelines & ETL/ELT: Proficiency in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines using tools like Apache Airflow, Kafka, or similar technologies. Experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools.

  • Databases: Strong understanding of relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases. Experience with database administration, performance tuning, and optimization.

  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Scala, etc.) and SQL. Experience with other languages like Java or Go is a plus.

  • Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence: Understanding of data warehousing concepts and experience with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) is beneficial.

  • Data Governance & Quality: Experience with data quality management, data governance policies, and metadata management.

  • Version Control: Git or other version control systems.

  • Containerization & Orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes experience is increasingly valuable.

II. Leadership & Management Skills:

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of data engineers and data quality analysts.

  • Project Management: Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong collaboration skills working with cross-functional teams.

  • Hiring & Performance Management: Experience with the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, performance reviews, and talent development.

III. Strategic Skills:

  • Data Strategy: Ability to develop and execute a data strategy aligned with business goals.

  • Technology Selection & Evaluation: Experience evaluating and selecting new technologies and tools.

  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Ability to identify and solve complex data engineering problems.

Pay Range Minimum:

$108,000.00

Pay Range Maximum:

$199,800.00

Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. The displayed salary range does not reflect any geographic differential Highmark may apply for certain locations based upon comparative markets.
