Join a dynamic team at the forefront of ensuring reliable and economical electric service across the SPP region, primarily focusing on the Western Interconnect. SPP is dedicated to preventing power outages and optimizing the performance of engineering applications critical to Real-Time Market Operations and system reliability.

This role is pivotal in maintaining the reliability and economic efficiency of electric service, particularly during Real-Time Market Operations, and ensuring the integrity of our Market and the Bulk Electric System.

As an Engineer in real-time operations you will:

  • Responsible for conducting engineering analysis and providing real-time support for critical engineering applications and processes.

  • Conducting engineering analysis and providing real-time support for engineering applications, processes, and services related to Coordinated Operations responsibilities.

  • Ensuring the reliability of the Western Interconnect through effective engineering decision-making, particularly in high-pressure situations.

  • Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain operational excellence and prevent disruptions.

  • Assisting in the professional development of engineering personnel through mentorship and training initiatives.

To be successful in the role we're looking for:

Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:

  • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation),

  • The degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field, and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering

Experience Requirements:

  • Sr Engineer – Five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, a professional engineer license, or an advanced degree may satisfy the requirement for one year of experience.

  • Engineer II - Two (2) years of relevant Engineering experience

  • Engineer I – no experience required

Professional Certification Requirements:

  • NERC Reliability Coordinator Certification and NERC PER-005 desk qualification, or the ability to secure such certification within six (6) months of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Competent skills with communication and data handling software programs such as Microsoft Office© Word, Excel, Access

  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Preferred :

  • Professional Engineer Certification (PE) is strongly preferred

  • Experience with power flow software packages, ATC calculations, stability analysis, and knowledge of power markets

  • Advanced degree in a related field of study

  • Electric Utility Industry experience

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work week are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:

This position requires some travel (0-10%)
