Sutter Health Senior Director, Laboratory Services in Livermore, California

Position Overview:

The position is responsible for overall operations, administration and coordination of services provided by laboratories in accordance with federal requirements under CLIA-88, College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Joint Commission (TJC), the State of California and/or any other related regulatory or accrediting body affecting clinical activities of the laboratory. Oversees the day-to-day activities and resources of assigned Laboratories, enabling them to provide high quality, cost-efficient laboratory services to hospital registered patients and referring clients. Serves as the primary laboratory administrative leader in regard to developing, maintaining and administering laboratory operational policies, processes and procedures. Responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, monitoring, controlling, coordinating, integrating, standardizing, assessing and improving the day-to-day operations of assigned Laboratories. Serves as a key contributor to enterprise-wide laboratory strategic and business plans that align with affiliate/operating unit plans, while also addressing unique needs/opportunities in the lab space. Working in conjunction with the Laboratory Executives across the enterprise, directs the assessment of new technology and testing methodology, making recommendations based on value delivered to patients. Develops and implements operational changes in response to business growth, enhanced access and improved technology throughout the enterprise. Where this job exists at a large affiliate, as defined as: Bay Foundation, Valley Foundation, CPMC, ABSMC, SMCS and OU roles, and reports to an Executive-Path leader, the title will be Executive.

Job Description :

EDUCATION:

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

  • Bachelor's: Degree in Biology or Medical Technology

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

  • CLSL-Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 15 years of recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Extensive knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Services operations in non-acute/ambulatory settings in establishing work processes, quality and productivity standards, and policies and procedures designed to ensure optimal departmental performance.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of all College of American Pathologists (CAP), CDPH/State, federal, state licensing, and other local regulations as they relate to Clinical Laboratory Services.

  • Knowledge of technological advancements, labor savings procedures and equipment, Clinical Laboratory sophisticate equipment for all sectional areas; Clinical Laboratory information systems, and other state-of-the-art departmental specific systems.

  • Team leadership and organizational skills.

  • Facilitation skills.

  • Ability to assess opportunities for, and implement, operational efficiencies.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands and projects.

  • Proven written and oral communication skills demonstrating interpersonal skills are required in order to coordinate effective integration that meets service needs as well as administrative, physician, nursing and departmental needs in the various entities.

  • A background and ability to form physician relations with the various clinical laboratory medical directors, medical group leadership as well as with care center directors/managers, and other key departments.

  • Ability to thrive in a matrix structured environment.

  • Ability to deal with complex situations and a large degree of variation in policies, rules and regulations.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, creativity and innovation.

  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and implement projects effectively across multiple entities.

Pay Range is $95.45 to $152.72 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
