Inserting Machine Operator

Department: Production

Reports to: Department Manager

Location: Liverpool

Full-Time: Monday – Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Pay Schedule: Weekly Pay

Benefits: Begin the first day after the first two full months of employment

**The salary range reflects the anticipated compensation for the role and may vary based on several factors, including experience, education, specific skill sets, tenure, and overall fit. Non-Exempt: Compensation starts at $37,440-$49,920 yearly depending on experience

All hourly positions:

  • 2nd Shift, +$1. hour Shift Differential

  • 3rd Shift, +$2. hour Shift Differential

    Position Summary

    The Mail Inserting Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining mail-inserting machines to ensure the accurate and timely processing of mail pieces. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to strict deadlines, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine issues efficiently.

    Essential Duties

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Machine Operation:

  • Set up and operate mail-inserting machines to process various types of mail, including letters, invoices, and promotional materials.

  • Ensure machines are loaded with the correct materials (e.g., envelopes, inserts) and programmed with the appropriate job specifications.

  • Monitor machine performance and adjust settings as necessary to maintain optimal efficiency and quality.

    Quality Control:

  • Inspect finished mail pieces to ensure they meet company and client standards.

  • Identify and correct misaligned inserts, incorrect postage, or damaged materials.

    Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance on mail-inserting machines to prevent downtime and extend equipment lifespan.

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues promptly, coordinating with maintenance personnel as needed.

    Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of machine output, maintenance activities, and any issues encountered during operation.

  • Report production data and machine performance to supervisors regularly.

    Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Comply with company policies, postal regulations, and mail handling and processing industry standards.

    Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with team members and other departments to ensure a smooth production flow.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and maintenance staff regarding machine status and production progress.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Employees may be required to perform duties outside their primary responsibilities or assigned department, as reasonably requested by management. These duties may occasionally occur outside of regular working hours, provided they align with applicable labor laws and are compensated fairly and appropriately, reflecting the value of your contribution to the organization.

On-Call Requirements

  • If you are called in to work outside your regular schedule, you are expected to work at least four hours unless otherwise directed by management.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience operating mail-inserting machines or similar equipment preferred.

  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

    Independence of Action

    Results are defined, and existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods and carry out work activities independently; the supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems.

    People Management

    Not responsible for supervising others.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this position successfully.

  • Work is performed in a warehouse or production facility environment.

  • May be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, and dust.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push 800 pounds on a load-bearing cart, carry 25 pounds, and pull 200 pounds.

  • Must be able to use hand tools, pallet jacks, and forklifts.

  • It requires frequent standing, walking, crouching, bending, kneeling, lifting, and using repetitive motions of hands or wrists; finger, grasp, handle, or feel; reach with arms and hands for extended periods.
