Job Summary:

The Safety Coordinator plays an integral role in supporting the implementation and administration of safety protocols within an organization. Tasked with ensuring that workplace practices comply with regulatory standards and company policies, this position focuses on minimizing risks and enhancing the overall safety of the work environment. Through collaboration with safety managers and other interdepartmental personnel, the Safety Coordinator helps conduct safety inspections, prepare reports, and educate staff on safety procedures. Their efforts contribute to creating a culture that prioritizes health and safety, aiming to reduce incidents and promote a secure and productive workplace for all employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and implementing workplace safety and health policies and procedures.

  • Perform regular safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations.

  • Coordinate and deliver safety training sessions for employees on topics such as emergency response procedures, proper use of safety equipment, and specific job-related hazards.

  • Investigate accidents or incidents to determine causes and to find ways to prevent them in the future.

  • Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities to ensure documentation is current and compliant with regulations.

  • Facilitate safety meetings and committees, encouraging employee participation and feedback on safety matters.

  • Distribute safety equipment and personal protective gear to employees, ensuring proper fit and usage.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of workplace practices to reduce the risk of injuries.

  • Assist with and maintain a strong safety environment and culture based on communication and accountability.

  • Safety Protocol Development: Safety coordinators mitigate workplace hazards by crafting comprehensive guidelines and procedures. Their work involves a detailed assessment of operational activities, collaboration with management and employees, and adherence to regulatory compliance requirements. The goal is to develop effective and adaptable protocols that ensure a secure environment.

  • Emergency Response Planning: Safety Coordinators are responsible for effectively creating and executing strategies to manage workplace emergencies. Regular risk assessments, drill coordination, and up-to-date evacuation plans are part of their strategy to minimize hazards and safeguard personnel.

  • Incident Investigation: When accidents or near-misses occur, Safety Coordinators conduct thorough investigations to uncover root causes. Collaborating with management and employees, they gather and evaluate evidence to implement corrective actions that enhance safety measures across the workplace.

  • Regulatory Compliance Monitoring: Safety coordinators are critical in ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations.     Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or higher required.

  • OSHA 500/501 Certification – Preferred not required

  • 3-5 years of experience in a safety coordinator or similar role preferred.

    Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various regulatory codes.

  • Ability to write reports, internal procedures, performance reviews, training programs, and presentations.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments, customers, clients, guests, and regulators.

    Working Conditions:

  • Works in an office environment and spends time at various job sites.

  • May be required to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, in response to safety emergencies.

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary.

  • This position may require traveling to and from multiple company-owned locations, transportation of workers to and from doctor appointments, and other tasks involving motor vehicle travel.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to lift and carry objects up to up to 50 lbs.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, talk or hear, climb stairs and/or ladders, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.

  • The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
