Overview Be part of long-term studies of the forests of Utah and the West. We are a group of forest ecologists studying forest change in and fire in Utah, California, and Washington, collaborating with Utah State agencies and Smithsonian-affiliated scientists around the world. Each summer we visit more than 100,000 trees and assess their status, while collecting ancillary data on snags, logs, shrubs, seedlings, soil nutrients, fuels, environmental DNA, and microclimate. We track these data through time to understand and predict forest change.

Responsibilities We seek a Data Manager to be an integral part of our team. The Data Manager will ensure consistency in the forest data over time. The data is organized in existing MySQL databases, and there is a considerable body of code, scripts, and procedures that have been used for many years. The Data Manager will use and extend the existing code to prepare data releases for analysis as well as the data sheets and instructions for the field crews to use in the next year. The Data Manager will handle some GIS data for the three sites. The Data Manager will document their procedures and regularly backup data.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * Good knowledge of one programming language * Desire and ability to learn MySQL, R, and ArcGIS Preferred Qualifications * Experience in SQL, R, and ArcGIS * Experience with cloud-based IT services * Experience implementing websites * Knowledge of trees and shrubs in the West

Advertised Salary $19.00 to $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

ADA Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not necessarily, and may experience occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
