Job Description:

The Longmont, Colorado office is seeking an Associate/Senior Associate level Civil Dams Engineer with expertise and practical experience in the design and construction of earth embankment dams, hydraulic structures related to dams and reservoirs, canals and pipelines to support our growing office and region. We are looking for experienced, motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of and provide leadership to a strong multi-disciplinary team.

The Longmont office of Schnabel focuses on the evaluation and design of dams, reservoir facilities, and hydraulic structures, as well as advancing our practice of risk informed decision making within our dam engineering group. Example projects include design of earth embankment dams, earth lined and/or concrete spillways, dam intakes and outlet systems, dam drain systems, concrete structures, water control, conveyance, pumping and measurement structures related to dams and reservoirs. Additional projects include municipal and agricultural water supply systems, including open channel and closed conduit flow.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform the following dam engineering tasks:

  • Provide engineering expertise, technical oversight and overall management of earth embankment dams, water storage reservoirs and conveyance engineering projects.

  • Prepare and review design calculations, engineering reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Manage client relationships.

  • Develop engineering proposals and qualification statements.

  • Perform project management activities including planning and delegating work, managing project budgets, invoicing, communicating resource needs and reporting backlog.

  • Work as a team member within the Longmont office and across other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources.

  • Supervise construction related engineering services.

  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers.

  • Prefer willingness to travel, with some overnight travel.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.

  • A Master’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.

  • 15 years plus of relevant work experience in design of water storage, control, measurement and conveyance infrastructure.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer and the ability to obtain reciprocity.

  • Experience/proficiency with common computer-aided analyses and modeling programs applicable to dam and general hydraulic engineering.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications.

  • Experience with construction of earth embankment dams, spillways, and drain systems.

  • Experience with construction of water storage and conveyance structures.

  • Experience and knowledge of applicable state and federal dam safety design methodologies, policies and regulations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail and well-organized.

The compensation range for this position is between $85,000 to $140,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
