Job Overview

Eastman Chemical Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Learning Services Technologist at our Longview, TX facility. This role is essential for setting high-level workforce development and training goals, ensuring team performance, and aligning with customer needs. The successful candidate will manage departmental tasks, including budget oversight, and play a crucial role in team development, operational standards, and community engagement.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

  1. Personnel and Contract Management:

    • Coordinate and deliver Apprentice Orientation for new maintenance apprentices. • Provide timely and appropriate documentation and feedback, including HR progress reviews and Documented Discussions. • Serve as Eastman’s representative for the U.S. Veterans Administration and the Department of Labor. • Administer the Student Internship program, including reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, extending offers, and coordinating placements.

    1. Curriculum and Program Development:

    • Ensure Maintenance Program curriculum and equipment align with customer needs and safety requirements. • Stay updated on industry knowledge and technology to enhance training programs. • Identify and address weak or problematic areas within the training programs. • Regularly seek feedback from apprentices and their leaders to improve training. • Maintain program documentation and oversee lab facilities and equipment.

    1. Team Leadership:

    • Supervise the Maintenance Apprentice Instructor Team. • Monitor daily operations and oversee program apprentice scheduling. • Coordinate with department leaders for overall program success. • Provide feedback on personnel performance and prioritize team workload. • Guide and support team members in their development and resolve cross-training needs.

  2. Non-Apprentice Craft Training Programs:

    • Ensure team members are cross trained to deliver instruction. • Facilitate customer training requests and maintain documentation. • Oversee the Fall Protection Program to meet OSHA requirements.

    1. Community and Educational Partnerships:

    • Influence positive community relations and interest in manufacturing roles at Eastman. • Manage education program funding and utilization, including scholarship funding. • Influence regional college curriculum development to meet Eastman’s workforce needs. • Represent TXO with the North American Process Technology Alliance (NAPTA).

    1. Additional Customer Support:

    • Consult with Eastman personnel to offer advice and support. • Screen customer requests for alignment with department priorities.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Lead Learning Services Instructor, Team Manager, or Group Leader preferred. • Familiarity with the Criterion Referenced Instruction methodology or a similar training methodology preferred. • Three or more years of teaching/training experience, preferably in maintenance or operations environment. • 5-10+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred; chemical industry a plus; a combination of experience and education may be considered. • Motivated self-starter. • Willingness to travel as required. • Results-oriented with high drive to achieve objectives and standards. • Proven project leadership experience. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and leadership is a must. • Ability to present and report information concisely. • Ability to lead meetings with effectiveness and confidence. • Ability to work independently to manage projects and timelines. • Understanding of change management principles.

• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance. • Comfortable making decisions without a guarantee of success. • Problem-solver with an ownership mindset. • Passion for learning, teaching, and encouraging others. • Ability to make recommendations based on facts and value. • Capable of leading and implementing Criterion-Referenced Instruction/Instructional Module Design methodology. • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Planner, and Access. • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions and procedures. • Commitment to safety, environmental, and company policies.
