Los Alamos National Laboratory Accelerator Diagnostics Technician (Engineered Systems Tec 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Mechanical Diagnostics Team in Mechanical Design Engineering (MDE) group is seeking a motivated Engineered Systems Tec 3. Mechanical Diagnostics Team is responsible for maintaining, rebuilding, repairing and upgrading approximately 200 diagnostics devices that support the LANSCE accelerator diagnosing beam. The candidate will need to provide demonstrated experience troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and rebuilding of mechanical and electrical system to support accelerator operations and a variety of projects. This position involves supporting LANSCE 24-hour, 7-day per week beam operation, which will involve work at odd hours (when required) and on-call duties. The successful candidate must be willing to work overtime occasionally and serve on call to support 24/7 accelerator operation and maintenance.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience in electro/mechanical assembly, mechanical fabrication, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment.

  • Familiarity with soldering techniques and operations.

  • Familiarity with a variety of test equipment such as multi-meters, and AC/DC power supplies.

  • Demonstrated skills using precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, etc.

  • Demonstrated strong work ethic with ability to work independently and as part of a team under both general and/or specific instruction.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with scientists, engineers, and technicians.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and a commitment to doing work safely and securely.

  • Be capable and willing to work in radiation areas while adhering to ALARA principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.

  • Applied knowledge of principles of vacuum technology.

Education/Experience: Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Additional skills that would be considered beneficial to a candidate but not required are listed below:

  • Experience working with intricate and detailed mechanical and electronic assemblies.

  • Experience in the fabrication of mechanical parts working from sketches, formal drawings, or oral instructions.

  • Certification in welding and brazing.

  • Knowledge of various alignment techniques.

  • Experience with LASER Tracker alignment equipment and software.

  • Design, fabrication and/or maintenance of accelerator equipment.

Work Environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
