Los Alamos National Laboratory Group Leader (Manufacturing Manager 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

You will report directly to the Production Agency Quality Division Leader and provide leadership and management for the Plutonium Production Quality Engineering and Inspection TA-55 (PAQ-1) Group. You will manage the organization's day to day operations contributing to the overall objectives for the Division and Directorate and will work with several other technical organizations within ALDWP to achieve its goals and deliverables. You will manage and provide leadership over the group responsible for quality systems associated with manufacturing operations in the LANL Production Agency (PA), represent the business unit on technical and administrative issues, both internal and external to the Laboratory, including defining business unit capabilities and requirements that translate into work scope, cost, and scheduling. You will ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.

Minimum Requirements

Leadership skills: Demonstrated leadership and engagement of people at different organizational levels; team-building skills; effective management of interpersonal conflict, negotiation of agreements, delegation of authority and building consensus.

Project Management: Demonstrated experience managing projects including defining project objectives, identifying required resources, establishing a project schedule to achieve work commitments to ensure that the compliance with all regulations regarding QA compliance programs.

Quality Assurance Experience: Expert-level and extensive experience and ability to ensure quality assurance requirements are met during the manufacturing, production, and design operations and practices.

Management Skills: Demonstrated experience managing business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement and other related business activities. Demonstrated expert-level ability to work independently in determining the appropriate course of action in a dynamic atmosphere of changing priorities.

Communication Skills: Demonstrated expert-level written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, briefings, presentations, and quality assurance reports.

Education: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis.

Desired Qualifications

Quality Requirements: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NSE Quality Program requirements, quality assurance standards such as NQA-1, NAP-401.1, and DOE 414.1D.

Qualifications: Active Q clearance and/or HRP highly desirable.

Communication: Demonstrated experience interacting with DOE/NNSA, or similar external agency

Quality Experience: Experience with and understanding of inspection, inspection engineering, and test methods that support the basis for product acceptance.

Education: Preference to STEM degrees.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
