Los Alamos National Laboratory Operations Support Specialist 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center Facility Operations Directorate (LANSCE-FO) is seeking an Operations Support Specialist to join our dynamic team. LANSCE-FO is seeking a motivated and customer service focused individual to provide operational, business, and maintenance support to advance our team!

In order to meet the needs of the FOD, the Operations Support Specialist (OSS) must be an excellent problem-solver and be able to anticipate challenges and obstacles. Interaction with a number of customers and organizational contacts with unique needs and skillsets is a must for this candidate. You will consistently demonstrate attention to detail, initiative, versatility, and tact. You will work closely with your team in creating an environment marked by close cooperation, adaptability, and a willingness to provide support where needed.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide oversight necessary to ensure compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders.

  • Implement Conduct of Operations, support Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes.

  • Provide support for the LANSCE User Office and Visitor Office.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for facility related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated the ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills, as well as preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.

  • Provide excellent customer service to programmatic customers in alignment with laboratory goals.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and changing priorities, and the ability to follow multiple tasks to completion.

  • Demonstrated experience in decision making, organizing and prioritizing tasks, as well as taking initiative.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of internal and external personnel and customers, with a strong customer service focus.

  • Possess excellent computer skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, MS Teams, etc.).

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Facilities and Operations, including familiarity with integrated safety, formality of operations, facility availability, compliance, performance, maintenance, engineering, safety basis, readiness, configuration management, work control, physical and cyber security, quality assurance, training and qualification, feedback and improvement.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, Laboratory systems (i.e., Oracle Business Suite, Oracle, Ariba, Lock & Key, iLink, and Utrain).

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with customers, stakeholders, regulators, and management regarding matters of significance to the organization.

  • Ability to obtain Q-clearance, which normally requires U.S. Citizenship.

Work Environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
