Los Alamos National Laboratory System/Middleware Administrator (Computing Systems Professional 1/2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either a Computing Systems Professional 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computing Systems Professional 1 $69,500 - $110,300

The CSP will become a team member for a highly visible Infrastructure Services Division (ISD) group that manages enterprise services for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).This specific team is designated under Infrastructure Services (IS) and part of the Application Middleware team.The technologies we manage have an expectation of being available 24/7 and as such, members of the team are expected to be efficient and dedicated professionals to accomplish that expectation. The Middleware Administrator will primarily work on Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Fusion Middleware products and Apache Tomcat application servers and once cleared, will be expected to work on the classified network.

Computing Systems Professional 2 $83,900 - $136,600

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the CSP2 is a customer-oriented professional who possesses the ability to build and administer middleware applications servers as well as install commercially off the shelf (COTS) applications and custom applications. Typical duties include application server patching, maintenance and troubleshooting, and using a support ticket system (Jira and ServiceNow).

The CSP2 Systems Administrator will have knowledge of administrating middleware application servers with limited training and supervision. The successful candidate will participate in the administration of customer solutions for the present and the future.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of server administration and desktop support.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills with workstations and servers.

  • Knowledge of core networking concepts and troubleshooting.

  • Understanding of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.

  • Knowledge of core networking concepts and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read, write, and translate technical ideas into verbiage that can be delivered to a variety of audiences.

Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 2:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Linux virtual machines.

  • Demonstrated skill in working professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to maintain a successful work environment and complete mission.

Education/Experience at lower level : Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience or familiarity with Oracle Fusion Middleware products, such as Oracle Access Manager (OAM), Oracle Internet Directory (OID), Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), Oracle Forms & Reports administration or concepts.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of middleware application servers (example: Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat JBoss/WildFly or IBM WebSphere).

  • Experience or familiarity with Microstrategy.

  • Experience or familiarity with Denodo.

  • Experience or familiarity with the concepts of F5 BIG-IP LTM.

  • Experience with Atlassian Confluence and Jira.

  • Experience with ServiceNow.

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and technologies.

  • Active DOE Q-Clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
