Position Summary:

The Director of People Operations oversees the full range of operational Human Resources activities within California Hospital Medical Center. You will provide operational and strategic leadership to the facilities' human resources and executive leaders. Additionally, you will serve as the HR leader for the Hospital, ensuring that all HR functions and activities enable business success. In this flexible and hands-on role, you will continually refines the role of Human Resources within the facility as a dynamic and fully integrated operational and strategic leader. Reporting to the market director of HR, you will be a crucial member of and thought partner to California Hospital's leadership team and lead a staff of HR professionals.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Providing advice, recommendations, and coaching to leaders on HR and workforce issues.

  • Leading employee engagement activities, advising leaders, ensuring compliance with HR policies, procedures, and practices, and managing day-to-day employee relations.

  • Offering direction and support to management with interpreting policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Providing education and advice on proper documentation and legal requirements for the performance improvement and termination processes.

  • Acting as an advocate for the employee, management, and the facility and encouraging problem resolution through the chain of command.

  • Diagnosing and determining the scope of organizational issues, leveraging service area and system HR resources to deliver effective solutions to drive necessary cultural change and outcomes.

  • Influencing operational outcomes that improve efficiency and productivity and reduce costs.

  • Advising management and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations about human resources.

  • Delivering processes and programs that ensure readiness and compliance in a highly regulated healthcare environment.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree required, or a combination of education and/or additional job-related experience instead of the degree.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources is required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • HR experience in a healthcare system.

  • PHR or SPHR.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws, FMLA, HIPAA, ADA, COBRA, and Affirmative Action Programs.

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Success in making compelling presentations to various audiences, including executive leadership.

  • Strategic acumen with experience building and maintaining a healthy culture.

  • Desire to become involved in community activities and relations.

  • Experience working in a Union environment.

Pay Range

$59.41 - $86.14 /hour
