Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute Research Intern in Los Angeles, California

Job Description

The research internship is designed for undergraduates, post-graduates and medical students who want to enrich their educational experience with a clinical research exposure. The goal of this project-based clinical research opportunity is to improve cardiovascular health with a focus on heart transplantation and heart failure and to provide students with the opportunity to apply knowledge from the classroom to real world, professional environments. Participants will complete a retrospective research project under the direction of a physician-investigator and also directly observe clinical patient care while spending time with attending physicians.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  1. Conduct scientific literature reviews on assigned topics

  2. Draft data collection tools for research queries

  3. Collect demographic and medical information from multiple sources, including medical records

  4. Manage data in project spreadsheets, ensuring data integrity and accuracy

  5. Assist in preparation of study results for abstracts and manuscript submissions to peer-review forums

  6. Participate in weekly research staff meetings

  7. Complete training in the protection of human subjects; adhering to HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must at least be a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in a science or health care related field.

  • Highly proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), email, internet

  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed instructions,

  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment

  • Ability to understand and follow scientific research protocols

  • Experience in research, data entry, database management, literature review, or statistical analysis a plus but not required. Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet applications) are required.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical ability and perceptive acuity to satisfactorily perform all required functions.

  • Vision sufficient to work at a computer, hearing sufficient for telephone transactions. Light lifting (10 – 20 pounds) may occasionally be required. Sitting, standing and walking to all areas on the Medical Center Campus and adjacent buildings.
