UCLA Health Lab Assistant II in Los Angeles, California
Description
The UCLA Santa Monica Hospital is seeking to hire a
full-time Lab Assistant to join the Orthopaedic Surgery Department. You will
assist with the study of orthopaedic disorders and will assist the research
team with the preparation of components used in molecular biology assays aimed
at helping to characterize translational regenerative medicine approaches to
the treatment of orthopaedic/musculosketal injuries. Primary duties include:
Laboratory maintenance (equipment, supplies, storage and disposal of chemical and biological waste)
Assist with preparation of equipment for survival surgeries
Assist with in vivo fluorescence and bioluminescence imagine
Cell line maintenance and storage
Maintenance of mutant mouse colonies
Sectioning and staining of tissue samples
Acquire images of samples using microscopy
Salary range: $21.38/hr - $25.15/hrQualifications
Ability
to pass UCLA exams for work with radioactivity and biohazards.
Passage
of ARC and DLAM exams for entry and handling of animals
Knowledge
of preparing and maintaining explanted tissue cultures (preferred)
Comfort
and ability to work with animals
Working
knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety regulations regarding use of
chemical, biological and radioactive substances and their disposal.
Ability
to maintain laboratory equipment in good working order.
Knowledge
of preparing chemical solutions and buffers using standard methods.
Knowledge
of basic computer skills involving data entry and organizational skills using
Word, Excel, Photoshop, and PowerPoint on Mac.
Skill
in writing legible, concise, and grammatically correct documentation of your
work in Standard English (lab notes and protocols).
Working
knowledge of library reference system.
Interpersonal
skills to effectively interact with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and
students.
Ability
to walk distances up to 1/3 mile.
Ability
to lift up to 20 lbs.
