We are focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life.

We’re looking for a Sr. Battery Engineer, Devices to join Snap Lab!

What you’ll do:

  • Own the overall battery technology platform and roadmap for all Snap Lab hardware

  • Drive Snap Lab battery programs through all phases of development, from R&D to prototype, mass production, and in-field performance

  • Partner with key internal stakeholders such as ID, EE, PD, Compliance, and Reliability to understand system design and integrate batteries as key enabling components in our products

  • Manage outside vendor partners to deliver best-in-class energy density and safety in the consumer wearable space

  • Own cell and pack level technical design, optimizing for safety, performance, and manufacturability while meeting product and schedule requirements

  • Partner with EE and PD teams to define system integration including mounting, interconnect, and charging/safety circuit design

  • Develop and drive design validation, qualification, reliability, and compliance for Snap Lab product batteries

  • Execute failure analysis, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions as needed

  • Be responsible for ensuring manufacturability, yield, and scalability of battery components.

  • Define and audit stage gates and milestones; delivering regular updates to senior leadership while meeting aggressive schedules for ambitious products

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of lithium-based cell and pack design, including components, manufacturing, and how they interrelate

  • Demonstrated experience in both cell/pack design, characterization and failure mode identifications

  • Knowledge of driving characterization, failure analysis, and corrective actions during both development and production, including field failure analysis.

  • Positive, can-do attitude and experience coaching and inspiring team to overcome technical challenges

  • Strong communication skills and experience sharing results with team members and leadership

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in a relevant field (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, ME, EE, or Physics)

  • 11+ years relevant experience in owning lithium-based battery cell/pack designs for consumer electronic devices

  • Demonstrated ability in one or more of the following engineering tools and workflows: (CAD, PCB layout, and battery test)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS/PhD in a relevant field (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, ME, EE, or Physics)

  • Demonstrated experience delivering one or more new battery technologies to market (e.g. electrode design, electrolyte chemistry, or novel application)

  • 5+ years experience owning battery technology roadmaps for consumer devices

  • Experience owning battery or cell manufacturing in a production environment

  • Experience with executive level presentations and reporting

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC) (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $202,000-$303,000 annually.

Zone B (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $192,000-$288,000 annually.

Zone C (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $172,000-$257,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
