City National Bank Lead Pricing & Profitability in Los Angeles, California

LEAD PRICING & PROFITABILITY

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Responsible for driving enhanced commercial pricing and profitability against the bank's products and services we offer. This is managed through existing pricing and profitability technologies, as well as bringing on-line PrecisionLender. The role will address opportunities within our commercial businesses to optimize relationship profitability by increasing margins and ancillary to better account for risk and expense, set appropriate return targets, and support the deal review process to ensure strategic alignment with our financial aspirations and goals. The lead will have a small team whose joint responsibility will include maintaining the inputs and tool configuration (FTP, Capital, Credit risk methodologies), setting hurdles in-line with strategy and profitability aspirations, supporting Business questions on deals and developing look-back capability and reporting to track Promise to Delivery. Education and support on the use of the tool is a critical component, and the lead will actively engage with sales teams including supporting pricing strategies for large deals.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Leads enhancements of relationship prospecting tool for Commercial relationships, including revenue, cost, and capital projections.

  • Calibrates RAROC hurdles and performs impact assessments to understand portfolio/deal impacts.

  • Develop a deep knowledge of the Business and tool to support the business evaluate profitability of deals for the commercial lending portfolios.

  • Collaborate with business and operations partners to improve quality of tool inputs and accuracy in the tool outputs.

  • Communicate pricing changes and strategies to internal stakeholders.

  • Empower the business in strategic decisions through estimated divisional ROE/RAROC levels, informing whether deals are accretive or dilutive to the portfolio through detailed cross-sell drivers and analytics projections.

  • Segment analysis: Informs management on what areas of the portfolio are challenged, where are opportunities for improvement.

  • Monitors the market: financial market conditions, competitive pricing, competitive environment and strategies, industry trends.

  • Partner with Lines of Business to educate on the use of the commercial relationship profitability tool, including pricing and cross-sell insights and optimization within CNB commercial portfolios, with a goal of improving profitability.

  • Reporting: create data portal to facilitate data distribution to lines of business on profitability KPIs and other relationship financial data.

  • Tracking: promise to delivery – create prospecting tool data records to facilitate new relationship performance measurement variance to projected deal/prospect profitability.

  • As needed – support other pricing tools, partnering with broader finance colleagues on various financial reporting issues/enhancements.

  • Documentation of tool to include necessary updates to policies, procedures and processes.

  • Leads change management activities related to profitability optimization including socialization of concepts, communication with leadership teams across the bank, trainings

  • Prepares and delivers executive level presentations to inform business decisions.

  • Collaborates with product managers, segment owners, pricing managers on strategic programs.

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and adjust pricing strategies/capital requirements accordingly.

  • Lead and participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving pricing and profitability processes.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or related field

  • 10+ Years experience in the Financial Services industry

  • 10+ years in Finance: financial analysis, financial modelling, and business planning

  • 5+ years of leading professional teams

Skills and Knowledge

  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Business or Economics, or CFA Charterholder

  • Well-rounded knowledge of banking products and services and product economics, predominantly in commercial lending space.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.

  • Understanding of key banking processes and functions: sales, credit, operations, technology, product, risk management, finance.

  • Design and execution of large scale transformation programs.

  • C-Level communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong program management and leading change in cross-functional environments.

  • Hands on experience with data modelling, architecture and large data management tools.

  • Experience in building and leading teams.

  • Strong collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong Project Management and Communication.

  • MS Office Suite (strong Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

  • Data Management and Analytics (Tableau, Python, SQL).

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to banking pricing and profitability.

COMPENSATION

Starting base salary: $157,943 - $293,299 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
