Research in the Noble and Jiang Laboratory focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms of lung inflammation and fibrosis, the role of lung stem cells in pulmonary fibrosis and the role of host defense in lung inflammation and fibrosis.

This Postdoctoral Scientist position will investigate mechanisms of pulmonary fibrosis. The projects include investigating pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and translational studies of progressive lung fibrosis. Experimental approaches employed in our laboratory include molecular biology, genetically modified mice, lineage-specific tracing, mouse lung injury models, prospective isolation and cultivation of lung stem cells, immunology, tissue culture, and genomics studies.

The candidate is expected to carry out the projects independently with minimal supervision, including designing experiments, formulating new ideas related to the projects, executing experiments proficiently and timely, and analyzing data professionally. The scientist is expected to handle multiple projects, to write scientific papers and reviews, and to present work in scientific conferences. The scientist is expected to supervise students and technicians including assay development, problem solving, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments.

As a Postdoctoral Scientist, you will be working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, and will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. In this role, you may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals.

  • May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.

  • Designs and performs experiments.

  • Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation, and analyze the results.

  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.

  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.

  • May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctorate degree (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization.

  • Doctorate degree in Medicine, Molecular Biology, or Immunology is highly preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in stem cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, and human disease; specifically in fibroblast subsets and macrophage in IPF is preferred.

  • Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
