About the RoleSierra Space is searching for a motivated and innovative Tooling Engineer to join our team. As a key player in the aerospace industry, Sierra Space is dedicated to developing advanced technologies and solutions that propel humanity towards exploring and living beyond Earth. As a Tooling Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing specialized tools and fixtures for the manufacturing and assembly of aerospace components and systems. Working closely with an experienced team including manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and technicians, you will help optimize our manufacturing processes for efficiency and quality. Your attention to detail and foundational knowledge in tool design will significantly contribute to our space exploration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop specialized tools, jigs, and fixtures for the manufacturing and assembly of aerospace components and systems.

Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers to understand specific manufacturing requirements and constraints.

Conduct feasibility studies to provide recommendations for tooling solutions that enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.

Utilize CAD software to create detailed tool designs, including 3D models, drawings, and specifications.

Participate in design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure tool designs meet project requirements and standards.

Liaise with suppliers and vendors to select and procure tooling components and materials.

Develop and maintain comprehensive tooling documentation, including design files, drawings, and specifications.

Support manufacturing and assembly teams in the implementation and use of specialized tools and fixtures.

Conduct tooling validation and verification activities to ensure tool performance and functionality.

Collaborate with technicians and operators, providing training and guidance on the use of specialized tools and fixtures.

Stay current with advancements in tool design and manufacturing technologies, applying relevant knowledge to ongoing projects.

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations in all tool design and manufacturing activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

Initial experience or internships in tool design engin ering, preferably in the aerospace or manufacturing industry.

Basic understanding of tool design principles and their application to manufacturing processes.

Proficiency in NX or a similar CAD software for tool design and modeling.
