University of Louisville Research Scientist in Louisville, Kentucky
Minimum Requirements:Master's degree in a related field and four (4) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 7 (Salaried)Position Description:The Research Scientist will function as a key member of the core research team at the Center for Predictive Medicine. The department is seeking a self-motivated, talented researcher with experience working under BSL-2 containment and the ability to work under BSL-3 containment. The Research Scientist is a senior member of the research team who, in addition to responsibility for design and execution of sophisticated biomedical research projects also has responsibility for training and supervision of students, postdoctoral fellows and research technicians to achieve proficiency in high containment research practices. The scientist should have expert-level skills in biomedical laboratory research. They must be prepared to work a flexible schedule, sometimes after hours and on the weekends. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesign and execute in vitro and in vivo infectious disease research experiments in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories.Design and validate biochemical assays.Design clinical trials and develop IACUC protocols.Advise others on laboratory business or operational matters.Analyze research data using appropriate statistical tests.Prepare data for publication, draft research papers and technical reports.Train and supervise research technologists, students and post-doctoral trainees in the research team.Review and revise laboratory policies and procedures.Ensure laboratory research compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.Perform research tasks as assigned by the CPM Director.Preferred QualificationsFive or more years of experience working in a biomedical laboratory under BSL-2 containment with an emphasis toward candidates with a background in pharmacology, microbiology, immunology and/or virology.
