Position Description:

Assists in providing leadership and direction for an assigned area within the athletic department. Responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of the department. Responsible for employees in the assigned area.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Assist athletic sports/units with the recruitment and hiring process to include: job postings, advertising, interviewing, applicant selection, and onboarding. Identify appropriate titles while maintaining compensation compliance per the university’s pay plan.

  • Maintain organizational charts and the staff directory for athletics. Assist athletic staff in maintaining current position descriptions.

  • Oversee the annual performance evaluation process in the University's performance management system to support a high performance culture by establishing clear expectations, providing feedback, and encouraging productive behavior.

  • Ensure compliance with student employment per the university’s policies and procedures.

  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as requested by senior staff. Collaborate with others on setting up ongoing ways to increase and promote engagement and employee recognition throughout the department. Evaluate reports, decisions, and results in relation to established goals.

  • Recommend new approaches and procedures to support continual improvements in department efficiencies and services performed.

  • Develop, implement, and administer department-specific onboarding for new hires. Ensure new hire paperwork, including E-Verify, is completed on time and in compliance with university policy. This includes the timely processing of direct appointments of certain staff, and the reclassification of positions.

  • Stay up-to-date and in compliance with all NCAA, Big 12, and employment-related federal, state, and university laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Educate the department of changes as appropriate. Conduct periodic audits of departmental human resources activities to ensure compliance with the university's policies and procedures. One example would be review of non-exempt hours worked and communicating such to supervisor for resolution. Answer routine requests for information on policy interpretation.

  • Ensure all athletic staff and student employees are in compliance with EEO and Title IX training per university policy. Work with supervisors and departmental leadership on a variety of personnel matter (terminations, performance improvement plans, counseling, etc.). Partner with the University’s office of human resources (& possibly the OGC and EEO Office) to resolve critical and time sensitive employee issues.

  • Supervises one employee and students as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Three (3) years experience in an intercollegiate athletics department or other work experience that would demonstrate the necessary background and knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
