Directs and supervises multiple Managing Directors.

Major/Essential Functions:

The MS in Ranch Management (non-thesis) in the Department of Natural Resources Management was recently established at Texas Tech University with the goal of providing participating students with a world-class education in the theories, methods, and on-the­ ground practices of Ranch Management. Focused on bridging the disciplines in natural resources management, economics, and livestock and animal sciences, this program is unique in blending classroom training with on-ranch experiences and internships to produce highly qualified and experienced ranch managers. As national and global human populations continue to grow, the coupling of ruminant livestock production with wildlife management in holistic ranch management approaches has become paramount. The next generation of ranch managers must be well trained in best practices and application of appropriate skills to ensure the tradition and maintain the relevance of ranching in the U.S. The Executive Director will be responsible for recruiting top students into the graduate program, developing partnerships and relationships with stakeholders for high-impact experiential, immersive, on-ranch internship opportunities for the program's students, and assisting with departmental, college, and university Development to raise funds for scholarships, endowments, and work to elevate the national profile and visibility of the program.

  • Collaborate with the NRM Department Chair and the Dean of Davis College to develop the strategic plan for the MS in Ranch Management Program;

  • Provide administrative review and support for the courses in the Program;

  • Develop grant and gift support for the Program;

  • Build a network of collaborating ranches on which students in the Program will conduct internship experiences;

  • Provide program assessment and improvement data and reports.

Appointment and Location:

The MS in Ranch Management Executive Director will be located in Lubbock, Texas or at another suitable location; the Director will be expected to travel extensively while building the visibility and reputation of the program.

Administrative Relationships:

This position will report to the Chair of the Department of Natural Resources Management and will also work with the Dean of Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Senior Director of Development for Davis College to increase the effectiveness and visibility of the Program through networking and fundraising.

Preferred Qualifications:

The selected candidate will be a high-profile and recognized leader in the Ranch Management community in the U.S., with extensive experience in managing ranches and/or academic programs related to rangeland, livestock, wildlife, and ranch management, an MS with ample industry experience, and proven experience in building relationships among the various ranch, range, and wildlife groups in the U.S. or globally, with a demonstrated ability to grow programs through funding, activity, and reputation.

Candidates with a national or global reputation in Ranch or Rangeland Management or related field; and a MS in these fields will be preferred. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.

Master's Degree required, terminal degree preferred. Eight years progressively responsible management experience required. Education beyond the master's level may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
