Financial Systems Analyst I

Position Description:

Performs financial systems management functions according to established procedures. The Financial Systems Analyst serves as a departmental resource providing functional and technical support for Accounting Services and campus users. This includes assisting functional users with the development of specs for local financial applications, facilitating functional testing and feedback during application development, troubleshooting errors and aiding users with those systems, assisting with data integrity through SQL database queries and report creation, and maintaining the ERP system, Banner, from a functional perspective.

Major/Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with maintenance, access/security, patches/upgrades, and management of accounting data integrity for the ERP system, Banner, and related satellite applications. This includes fiscal accounting period management, data records management & edit checks, accounting ledger control report maintenance, use of SQL language, and other duties as assigned.

  2. Assist with business analyst/application development processes as a liaison between functional and technical areas. This includes organizing system requirements for development and/or enhancements for finance applications, writing specifications for communication to Information Systems (IS) and documentation of user manuals, testing, submitting and managing related JIRA issues, and coordinating/communicating with applicable users (internal and external) and IS.

  3. Respond to functional and technical support inquiries or needs from/for academic and central administrative units including troubleshooting financial system and application issues, approval of data changes in financial applications, website updates, management of related JIRAs or help tickets, and other miscellaneous customer support duties as assigned.

  4. Assist with maintenance and development of Cognos reports for the accounting department and other data analytics and/or automation projects to enhance financial business processes as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in higher education or governmental accounting, fund accounting, Banner, Financial Applications and/or Cognos, be able to perform basic database querying and write simple queries using SQL developer, exposure to business processes; business analyst training or work experience in functional departments.

  2. Information Systems or related degree, accounting/finance experience or coursework, Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) or Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA) or related certification is a plus.
