Performs routine pre-award and/or post-award sponsored programs activities associated with management and oversight of the life cycle of awards.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Guides and facilitates faculty and staff in the development and preparation of research proposals and Pre-award requests for sponsored projects grants, contracts, sub-contracts, and cooperative agreements, including budget preparation, review and preparation of proposal application forms and Pre-award budget and information requests.

  • Correctly apply university policies concerning proposal routing, indirect costs, cost sharing, salary allocation and ensure application of university policies on export control, subcontracts, conflict of interest, human and animal subject and all other compliance issues are followed.

  • Correctly interpret sponsor guidelines and provide guidance to faculty and staff regarding sponsor requirements, ensuring that proposals are received by the sponsor by the deadline posted with all required forms and information.

  • Facilitates and finalizes Cayuse routing for all sponsored project proposals, ensuring required institutional approvals and signatures are present along with documentation of proposal preparation.

  • Demonstrate caseload management skills and the ability to prioritize proposal responsibilities that allows meeting tight deadlines.

  • Thoroughly and professionally communicate with TTU faculty and staff and external institutions’ and agency personnel in time sensitive situations.

  • Conduct training, one-on-one or for a group, for faculty and staff on a number of topics including budgeting, Cayuse, and Proposal Submission Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have thorough knowledge of university policies, procedures, and systems related to administration of sponsored projects including proposal submission, budgeting, personnel, payroll, travel, and purchasing.

  • Have thorough knowledge of federal regulations and federal agency policies concerning grants and contracts with educational institutions.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.

  • Be able to accurately interpret federal, state, and university regulations.

  • Able to work under tight deadlines, often in stressful situations.

  • Understand often poorly phrased questions and suggest solutions.

  • Have knowledge of university organization and understanding of faculty responsibilities and motivations.

  • Be willing to work in a supporting role in order to accomplish the mission of ORS.

  • Master's degree.

  • Certification as a Certified Research Administrator or Certified Pre-award Research Administrator.

The Research Administrator I supports faculty and staff through pre-award review of research and other proposals to federal, state, foundation, and industry sponsors. We are looking for someone who thrives in a team-oriented environment, has an eye for detail and is up for learning the complexities of a wide range of sponsors and proposals. Pre-award research administration experience is preferred, but we welcome applications from anyone with excellent time management skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to draft proposal budgets and is a great team player.

Remote work is an option for those with 2+ years of direct experience in pre-award research administration.
