About this position:

The Lynn Advanced Programs (AP) section is a brand-new organization with the mission of inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability for the next generation of military applications. Lynn AP supports a wide range of engineering activity including design, analysis, and testing across new, derivative, and existing engines.

The lead engineer for exhaust nozzle mechanical design will be the hardware owner responsible for all aspects of design and development of assigned exhaust nozzle components as a part of the exhaust nozzle team. In this role, the lead engineer will utilize engineering experience and partner with teammates and technical experts to solve problems and recommend solutions. This role is best suited for a collaborative problem solver with a desire to deepen their mechanical design expertise and develop new solutions to challenging technical problems while balancing program requirements. Effectively working with teammates, technical experts, and peers in adjacent organizations will be necessary for successful project execution to impact short-term and long-term business goals.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute exhaust nozzle component design and analysis by applying engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements with guidance from experienced teammates and technical experts. Properly document technical data generated.

  • Develop specialized knowledge in exhaust nozzle mechanical design and interface design with adjacent hardware within the exhaust nozzle module. Stay current with the latest technical developments and internal processes.

  • Provide timely communication if significant issues or challenges arise. Collaborate with people leader, teammates, and technical experts to develop action plans to resolve challenges.

  • Prepare and present technical data along with recommendations or conclusions to internal and external customer audiences.

  • Gain an understanding of competitors and the factors that differentiate designs or products.

  • Lead small projects optimizing exhaust nozzle component design while balancing all design, interface, and resource requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant mechanical design engineering position.

  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • 4-5 years of experience in relevant mechanical design engineering position

  • Active US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level

  • Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS

  • Knowledge of 3D Modeling software, preferably Unigraphics/NX

  • Understanding of GD&T principles and reading or creating drawings

  • Experience in design, analysis, and manufacturing of high-precision or turbomachinery components

  • Experience in design, analysis, and manufacturing of metals and high temperature composites

  • Passion for the aviation industry and advancing the state-of-the-art

  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and recommend solutions considering input from stakeholders and technical experts

  • Strong project management skills with ability to independently organize and prioritize efforts

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in-person and across geographic sites
