MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Manager Health & Safety, is a key member of theMaconLeadership team and is responsible for managing the Health & Safety function at the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility, implementing strategic and operational plans to drive both short and long-term objectives, and provide world class expertise through demonstrated leadership. The position is responsible for managing the HSE Management System and related matters to safeguard the health and welfare of all employees, vendors, contractors, visitors, etc. This role reports directly to the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Manager and engages other operations and functions as required. TheMaconH&S Manager supports the HSE global vision, mission, overall goals and objectives and is the key liaison with HSE leadership.

The manager will have history of sustained results, leadership, prioritization, coordination and consistent deployment of strategy, customer service and compliance are requirements for this position. Direct responsibilities include Health and safety regulatory compliance and support with medical and worker compensation groups. The individual works cross functionally and develops relationships to achieve compliance, positive employee and community relations, influences to create a positive HSE culture and drives results that achieve positive business performance. The individual will influence proactively in a dynamic work environment. Expected results focus on driving a proactive, sustainable, and continuously improving HSE management system, developing and enhancing employee H&S knowledge, innovating transformation, and performing with excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Job Functions : Primary job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Managing the Health and Safety and security direction for theMaconPaperboard Manufacturing Facility

  • Accountable for the Health and Safety budget and leading the GPI HSE Management System to drive program maturity

  • Establishes methodologies for measuring the effectiveness of Paperboard Manufacturing Facility compliance with OSHA, state, and other federal regulations and maintains comprehensive knowledge of government Health and Safety regulations

  • Managing people, setting direction and deploying Health and Safety and fire protection resources in a non-union environment

  • Developing plans and delivers results in a fast-changing business and regulatory environment by participating in Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Division Health and Safety initiatives to drive process improvements.

  • Provides input to Paperboard Manufacturing Facility and departmental strategy

  • Coordinates, plans, and drives Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Health and Safety Committee reviews and participates and provides guidance and support for Area Health and Safety Team Meetings

  • Contributes directly to Paperboard Manufacturing Facility priorities and planning

  • Directly supervises Health and Safety professional and interns for a location supporting approximately 450+ employees and multiple contractors

  • Provides solutions to complex Health and Safety and security issues serving as the Health and Safety leader

  • Designs, develops, implements programs and oversees the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility’s First Responders, OSHA Audiometric and Respirator fit testing, Process Safety Management, and industrial hygiene.

  • Investigates accidents, develops corrective and preventive actions, promotes Health and Safety-conscious work performance.

  • Drives hazard identification and risk reduction across the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility

  • Works closely with OSHA officials, state police, Hazmat, community representatives, and other officials

  • Manages and documents Health and Safety audits and inspections

  • Determines Health and Safety training requirements and schedule and provides or coordinates training for employees applicable to their work processes.

  • Directs and coordinates appropriate, timely and cost-effective delivery of health care related to disability, urgent and emergency care, work limitations, transitional return to work plans, accommodations and part-time work for workers compensation and non-workers compensation illness and injury

  • Actively participates in machine outages to oversee the Health and Safety aspects of the process

  • Assists the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Division with Health and Safety efforts during construction (requires additional travel through 2025)

  • Other duties as assigned.

Background:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in health and safety or related field

  • Minimum 12+ years health and safety experience

  • 3+ years of leading people, large-scale construction projects, and managing budgets and resources

  • Certified Safety Professional, desired

  • Possesses broad technical expertise, business and industry knowledge, and process and people leadership capabilities.

  • Paper manufacturing experience preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge with Microsoft programs (excel, word, PowerPoint)

  • Familiarity with HSE data management system (i.e., Gensuite, Intelex, VelocityEHS, Enablon, ProcessMap, EHS Insight, Riskconnect)

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Weekend and evening on call responsibilities based on rotation.

  • Up to 25% travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8+hours.

  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.

  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

Pay Range: $101,840.00 - $135,755.00
