The Remote Position is for an International Tax Manager.

Summary: The International Tax Manager position reports to the Director of Tax Services and is responsible for monitoring the tax compliance processes for TNC's 75+ foreign related entities and branches. This role will be the point of contact for Tax Services regarding inbound and outbound international tax research and compliance. The International Tax Manager will build internal relationships abroad at The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The individual in this role will liaison with foreign Business Units (BU), Branches and/or Related Entities (RE) regarding the tax obligations and compliance in the foreign jurisdictions in which TNC operates or has a permanent establishment (PE) and where it has employees. This role will be responsible for reviewing local processes and procedures. The position will work to help mitigate tax exposure by helping implement/update/monitor for best practice compliance procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities: Manages international tax compliance program. Works with Technical Accounting, RE team and Foreign BUs/REs to implement tax compliance procedures in new foreign jurisdictions. Responsible for TNCs foreign Branch filings. Identifies and coordinates transfer pricing study needs. Gathers accurate information from various sources for TNC's IRS foreign filings (e.g., Form 926, 5471, 8858, 8865, etc.) Assists with preparing TNC's Form 990 Schedule F. Ensures Form 8802 is filed annually and that the required Form 6166 is on hand for foreign income tax and VAT recovery purposes. Coordinates VAT and foreign income tax withholding recovery and filing treaty exemption applications and renewals. Advises Payroll and Accounts Payable regarding Nonresident Alien (NRA) tax withholding and treaty benefits. Ensures TNC's Form 1042/1042-S are accurately filed on time. Responsible for researching international tax questions for BUs. Works toward meeting the strategic priorities of the compliance program by developing and coordinating tactics for approved plans. Implements and manages new initiatives and processes. Manages and implements multiple projects. Ensures the programmatic work is collaborative and well-integrated across organization. Works within a budget, negotiating and contracting with vendors. Decisions may bind organization financially and legally. May supervise one or more administrative or professional staff. Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance. Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field. May manage or participate in complex negotiations. Reports to leadership on activities. This role may require some international travel.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination. Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations. Experience recruiting, supervising, and developing staff. Experience with GAAP. Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. and International Tax Law. Experience with corporate income tax, income tax treaties, VAT/GST, and other withholding taxes. Experience with identifying transfer pricing study needs. The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and experience in management of data and personnel. The ideal candidate will have all or some of the qualifications. Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated. Technical expert on complex accounting/financial issues. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel. Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable law and regulation, and finance/acco nting/management best practice. Experience analyzing a regulatory framework and applying it to the situation at hand. Expert knowledge of GAAP and/or relevant regulatory framework. Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls; interpreting guidelines and analyzing factual information to adapt or modify processes as needed. Ability to resolve complex issues independently within program area. Experience acting as a resource to others to solve problems.
