JOB REQUIREMENTS: Purpose of Position: The purpose of this position is to administer and supervise the delivery of a variety of year round community recreation programs for all ages. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervise a number of professional, full-time staff and part-time, seasonal employees that work in MSCR programs throughout the year. Listed below are the full-time district staff: Recreation Specialist Fitness & Wellness Recreation Specialist 50+ Fitness Recreation Specialist Youth Arts Recreation Specialist Adult Arts & Events Assistant Recreation Programmer (NUC) Program Assistant (3) (SEE unit) Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Oversee program specialists in the development, implementation and supervision of community recreation programs including but not limited to fitness, arts, enrichment, camps and special events. Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate full time staff. Provide leadership, coaching, team building, differentiated support and ongoing feedback to team. Work with the fitness & arts team to set short and long term goals and priorities, and evaluate program effectiveness to ensure community needs are met. Develop and monitor multiple program and facility budgets with multiple funding sources, initiate budget adjustments and approve expenditures. Manage all aspects of MSCR East facility operations: staffing, budget, outreach, supply acquisition. Serve as day to day facility manager. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with MSCR and MMSD staff, with the public, neighborhood associations and community organizations. Provide excellent customer services to customers and participants, respond to and resolve customer complaints and suggestions. Identify community needs and develop innovative solutions to address needs. Collect and analyze program data, participant feedback and budget data and utilize data to inform program decisions. Develop and maintain positive public relations. Prepare and give public presentations regarding MSCR programs. Prepare data and reports for MSCR and funders. Maintain knowledge of current community recreational needs, recreation program funding sources, facility suitability, fee and charge trends, and budget administration. As a member of the MSCR Leadership Team, provide department-wide leadership and set and support overall department vision and goals. Assist with other management functions as assigned by the Executive Director. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications: Bachelor\'s degree in Recreation Administration, Management or related field, and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in recreation program administration; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Prior supervisory experience required. Comprehensive knowledge of recreation program development and management. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a diverse staff and clientele. Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one\'s own cultural competence i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one\'s skills and expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas. High level of proficiency working in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and registration management software (ActiveNet). Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Creative problem solving skills, ability to proactively seek out information and devise solutions to complex problems. Ability and comfort level with learning new technology. Experience working with racially, linguistically, and economically diverse communities, students, and staff. Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting part cipation, enrollment and staffing data for decision-making purposes. Ability to lead, mentor, coach and direct the work of staff.
