JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Department of Pathobiological Sciences (PBS) in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Madison invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position in the field of Respiratory and Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent, extramurally funded, nationally recognized research program. We seek candidates with a research focus on respiratory and hemorrhagic fever viruses of importance to human and animal health. Competitive candidates would offer innovative approaches to make advancements in the field of respiratory and hemorrhagic fever viruses to include the characterization of these viruses in animal models, development and testing of therapeutic countermeasures against these viruses, identifying and exploring host-pathogen interactions, and having the capacity to response to newly emerging viruses. Given the highly pathogenic nature of many respiratory and hemorrhagic fever viruses, the successful candidate should have experience in and demonstrate independent access to both biosafety level (BSL)-3 agriculture and BSL-4 containment facilities. The ability to obtain and maintain Select Agent clearance (FBI background check, fingerprinting, and annual training) upon and during the appointment is required. In addition, the ability to obtain and maintain various vaccinations, travel reporting requirements and trainings upon and during the appointment is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to serve as an assistant director at the Influenza Research Institute (IRI) and be responsible for oversight of the Select Agent program, animal research program, and BSL-3 research program specific to the IRI. Responsibility will include working closely with the institutional Research Animal Resources and Compliance program and the Select Agent program within the office of Environment, Health, and Safety to ensure compliance with all Select Agent regulations, training of researchers, and the proper function of the Select Agent registered research spaces as well as compliance with USDA-regulated animal species.
