JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The University of Wisconsin-Madison, McBurney Disability Resource Center (the campus disability services office for students) is hiring an ASL hearing interpreter with experience in postsecondary and healthcare interpreting experience for this unique opportunity. You would be providing ASL interpretation for a student attending medical school in Fall 2024-May 2028. Interpreting will happen within the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Heath\'s program, consisting of phases including: course work and shadowing experience; four, 12-week clinical rotations, with rotation(s) likely outside of the greater Madison area; varying clinical experience dependent on student preference. Learn more about the three phases of the UW-Madison Medical School curriculum: https://www.med.wisc.edu/education/md-program/curriculum As a designated American Sign Language (ASL) hearing interpreter you would be working with a student attending medical school. Interpreting will happen in classes, labs, discussions, study and affinity groups, multiple clinical rotations, and additional settings as needed. This position is part of a team of highly qualified ASL interpreters, applying your experience and knowledge as a medical and postsecondary interpreter. When not actively interpreting, you would be preparing for interpreting assignments and working with the team to ensure access and provide consistency of services. The student and designated sign language interpreters will collaborate, communicate, and develop best practice for each unique situation. You will have the support of the larger campus Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services team and an onsite supervisor to navigate logistical issues. Join our team and be part of this exciting opportunity!
