JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a registered apprenticeship program leading to journeyworker status as a Service Steamfitter. The Steamfitter Apprentice position will involve learning and applying a full range of HVAC/R and steamfitting skills. This position works on a team of highly skilled journeyworkers providing critical support to research and educational functions on campus. The apprentice program is typically five years of progressive work experience coupled with classroom education. This is a registered apprenticeship program recognized by the State of Wisconsin. Responsibilities: Assists with lays out, installs, remodels, and maintenance of pipe systems for heating/chilling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities. Attends all required training as stated in apprenticeship program agreement. 5% Trains to interpret blueprints and drawings to assess and verify specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Participates in discussions with customer/client regarding project plan 10% Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs as instructed to do so by Supervisor and or lead 20% Trains to perform skilled steamfitter work according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes 5% Participates in the review of finished projects with client/customer.
