Summary of Role:

GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab8, Malta, NY, seeks a Facilities Electrical Engineering Intern.  In this role, the intern will be exposed to ongoing operations and work to maintain , troubleshoot, and ensure continuous improvements to our facility’s electrical systems.    Additionally, the intern has opportunities to work on the design, construction, and startup of GLOBALFOUNDRIES electrical systems in support of our wafer fabrication facility.  

Essential Responsibilities include:

  • Learn electrical distribution systems from 13.8kV to 120vac

  • Learn, maintain , update, and run reports of the power monitoring systems

  • Develop and update the power panel schedule database for the campus.  This includes data entry and updates with additions and corrections.

  • Review electrical drawings and panel schedules and verify the accuracy with field conditions

  • Assist engineers with power system modeling using Easy Power software

  • Assist engineers and technicians with site incident prevention plan (SIPP) process when needed

  • Corroborate with engineers on electrical systems improvement in support of various facilities-related process equipment including, but not limited to: Acid Scrubbers, Caustic Scrubbers, VOC Abatement Units, Process Cooling Water Systems, Process Vacuum Systems, Chillers and Chilled Water Support Equipment, Boilers and Hot Water Support Equipment, Process Delivery Systems, and various Make-Up and Recirculating Air Handling Systems.

  • Assist and learn maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems in conjunction with electrical Technicians and Engineers

  • Work with other Facilities departments, including the FAB manufacturing team, to troubleshoot and solve their electrical-related issues

  • Assist in the creation of operations and maintenance specifications

    Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Education – At least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related field through an accredited degree program during the time of internship. 

  • Must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing.

  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

  • Language Fluency - English (Written & Verbal)

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior related internship or co-op experience

  • Project management skills, i.e. the ability to innovate and execute on solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity.

  • Dynamic, resourceful self-starter with good analytical & strong planning, organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and able to write SOP’s and Out of Control Action Plans (OCAP’s)

  • Available and willing to flex work hours as needed to support emergency operational issue
